Does anyone know what is the best way to bet mustard out of clothing? My son got it on a new shirt I washed it and tried peroxide with no success! I'm hoping someone has a trick to share!! Thanks! Ida

I'm wondering about trying a bar of Fels Naptha??? I keep one by the washing machine and first wet the spot, then rub the wet bar into the spot. I've gotten out lots of stains using this method. Good Luck!

Hey Dona! Thanks for replying! I have never used Fels Naptha or no where to get it! This shirt is white but has dark blue stripes. Does that soap affect colors? Thanks again!

Morning Ida!
I've used it on whites and colors and it has never left its own stain. Even though when applying it and rubbing it in it lathers yellow but that comes out in the wash. I've bought it both in the aisle selling laundry soaps and cleaners and also I've seen it with regular bar soaps. Our co-op also sells it, the paper wrapping is red & green. If you have trouble finding it, I'd be more than happy to send you a bar! LMK~Dona

| I got permanent marker out of a white sweater by using boiling water (got it from the MFJ magazine). I put the sweater in a colander (in the sink of course!) with the stained side down. Then I slowly poured the boiling water over the stain. Took it out right away. If you put cold water on it, it may set the stain. Try it and see what happens. I never dreamed the boiling water would take purple marker out of a white sweater and it did. |

Well, Cheryl Mendelson, in "Laundry," says to "Treat with a prewash stain remover, or damped with water and rub with bar soap. Launder with chlorine bleach, if safe for that fabric, or use an all-fabric bleach." Now, I realize that these aren't "natural remedies," but that's all I can find!
You may want to try a drop of two of glycerin on the stain along with some of your laundry detergent and water - rub that around a bit and see if that helps... Good luck!!!

Alot of it has to do with your water (hard or soft), fiber content, if you have already put this shirt in the dryer and set the stain. I pretreat almost all stains that have any sort of oil type base with Dawn dish soap and let it sit. It amazes me what comes out! I have a really hard time getting out chocolate though no matter what! Seems like our water has some sort of fixative in it!
For old linens I use a paste of white vinegar, baking soda and Dreft.
Haven't met a stain that adding peroxide to this mix didn't help on light colored fabric. Hope something helps! (I've got three messy "boys"!)

Well, it 'ain't purty' but one of the best ways to minimize yellow mustard stains on clothing before you wash it is saliva. It starts breaking down (digesting) the stain. You sill have to pre-wash, etc., but some good ol' spit on a cloth to rub on the stain after gently blotting will help until you can get home and work on it. When I have a stain on something and it doesn't come out on the first try, I re-treat before letting it dry. Putting something in the dryer just sets the stain. I too like peroxide to lift organic stains.
