This is my battle cry for 2012! I WILL retake the basement.

It's finished - but in a child/young kid color. Yellow walls, sky blue ceiling along with stamps of bugs & critters. Our kids were small when we did this.

It's a combo/cluttered room right now. Couch & space for tv/wii viewing. Desk with my sewing machine and PILES of crafting materials. Closet full of toys.

I'm committing to working down there at LEAST 30 minutes a day. I know if I plan on more, I'll either put it off or get burned out.

Today I cleared a tub of misc. craft supplies. Made the tub into a "grab and go" craft center. Everything is in kits and ready for someone to do. Rainy day kind of fun.

I also cleared out a bag of recycling. Misc. papers & magazines that are no longer needed.

Not sure how to proceed. Should I put like with like when it comes to crafting? I need to sort, then organize then put away. I'm organizationally challenged. Wish I could have a buddy come over and offer their expertise.

Edited to add: We want to make this into more of a den sort of room. Once it's decluttered, I will ask dh about repainting it a more teen friendly color. The craft area needs to stay, but should be open & welcoming so if the teens want to craft, they can.

Deb I worked in the basement last night, ended up being about an hour and then I got a tad frustrated- doesn't look like I made much progress- but will keep working. I get so distracted by all the crap and go from pile to pile!

Good for you!

I'm headed back down there shortly. I'll need breakfast first. I feel like I made a bigger mess of things than what was down there before. Hoping to set up "staging areas". More weeding out. I may hit the closet today.
