Rebekah reminded me today of this wonderful song by James Taylor called "Shed a Little Light" that honors Martin Luther King...Thank you Rebekah!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p18qu4Te9j4&feature=share

Let us turn our thoughts today
To Martin Luther King
And recognize that there are ties between us
All men and women
Living on the earth
Ties of hope and love of
Sister and brotherhood
That we are bound together
In our desire to see the world become
A place in which our children
Can grow free and strong
We are bound together
By the task that stands before us
And the road that lies ahead
We are bound and we are bound

There is a feeling like the clenching of a fist
There is a hunger in the center of the chest
There is a passage through the darkness and the mist
And though the body sleeps the heart will never rest

Shed a little light, oh lord
So that we can see
Just a little light, oh lord
Wanna stand it on up
Stand it on up, oh lord
Wanna walk it on down
Shed a little light, oh lord

Can't get no light from the dollar bill
Don't give me no light from a tv screen
When I open my eyes
I wanna drink my fill
From the well on the hill

(do you know what I mean? )
- chorus -

There is a feeling like the clenching of a fist
There is a hunger in the center of the chest
There is a passage through the darkness and the mist
And though the body sleeps the heart will never rest

Oh, let us turn our thoughts today
To Martin Luther King
And recognize that there are ties between us
All men and women
Living on the earth
Ties of hope and love
Sister and brotherhood

I know the song, and it's a good one, Mel. Thanks for sharing on this MLK day. This is my favorite text from MLK's I have A Dream speech. Reading it gives me chills, but hearing it makes me weep. "...I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together...."

"Hey, I've got nothing to do today but smile..."

Jonni,
That gives me chills!

I would have given anything to hear him in person-We were stationed at Dow AFB in Bangor when he was assassinated. We were just getting ready to transfer. I was with my brother and sisters at another temp house while my folks got our quarters ready for inspection. After hearing the news bulletin on the radio I ran 5 blocks to tell my folks what had happened. Just two days later we were on our way to KI Sawyer in the UP and we were informed by State Police that we would be re-routed around Detroit because of the riots. It was very scary to me and I thought the whole world was going crazy.

It's true...the good do die young.
