Hi Everyone:
Does anyone know how (or have a hubby that knows how) to stain and Seal a concrete basement floor that's inside my house? What products are the best for this? I want something that's nice to look at but functional and safe for pets instead of just painting the floor. Toenails from the dogs will scratch off the paint too fast. This floor is just a plain concrete floor and nothing has ever been done to it. I'm wondering if this is something that I can do myself. Thanks.

Tina- Home Depot has a product that is a type of epoxy for concrete floors. It is a base color, with little colored chips added and then a top coat sealer that goes on top of that. I wish I could remember the name of it-aargh, sometimes I think there is a trap door that opens and lets all of my thoughts out! But, you should be able to find it in the paint section of any major hardware store. It may be worth a look-see!!

| My dad in law just had this done. The process in which he had it done used an acid. There are different acids that react to the concrete causing different colors. Actually, my uncle did the job for him and he said the acid actually etches the concrete with color where as some of the ones you buy from the home improvement stores only sit on top. So my suggestion would be, that if you can't do it using the acid form, than make sure you put a really good sealer over it. Either way, im sure it will look great. I am actually looking into painting on concrete flooring. Maybe like painting a rug or some kind of design. Any recommendations on that? |

Thanks for the information. My additional problem to this floor is that, when finished, I don't want the floor to scratch when all of my dogs walk on it. I raise dogs, and this is their room, but I want to get the floor presentable in order to sell it. I've thought about having it hired out but cost is a factor. I like your idea of painting a design on the floor and I would put a sealer on top of that if I were you.

there is a company called kemiko, that makes concrete stains. they have a brochure they will send you from their web site. i have seen the floors done this way and they dont really look like concrete they look like limestone or flagstone or marble depending on the colors you use. they are a bit pricey, but i do think you can do it yourself. when i was looking into staining my craftroom floor(which never got done!) i looked up concrete stain on the internet and found lots of info.

| If you do the acid staining the floor can not be scratched because it the stain actually etches the concrete. its not like a stain that just coats it actually gets down in there. It looks really nice too, but it is costly. |
