We are getting the chance to "get away" this weekend. It's not the "mystery" trip, but will let you know when I figure it out.

We've been married almost 19 years (sometimes seems like 100!) Anytime we can do something together, we jump at it. Even if its just going to the grocery. Having a special needs child hasn't made it easy. Now that he's getting older, he spends more time by himself.

Great ideas, thanks for sharing them.

Just remember that one of the most important things is that you want to keep having dates. Pretty much everything will work out from there.

"Fancy" date night for us is dinner and a movie, but we also have a lot of little informal "dates." Every year, we make a "date" to go Christmas shopping just the two of us & then dinner afterwards, etc. but mostly we just kinda buzz around town doing errands or getting a bag of delicious popcorn from the old-fashioned popcorn stand (summers only as we are WI!!). This summer will be our 25th anniv. so we are going to Niagara Falls-it will be our first trip anywhere without the kids, so that is a HUGE date night for us! LOL

My husband and I have been married 20 years. Since our eldest was 12 we started having a date night each week. sometimes we go to the river,a drive to the mountains. SOmetimes we get an ice cream cone. The most important thing is it's just us, no kids. I love my kids BUT they are growing up and eventually will be gone..Then it will be just my hubby and I. My opinion is a date night is very important to a marriage.

My DH & I arrange for our son to go spend the night at a friends house once in awhile (we offer the same service for the other family). That way we have our house to ourselves for a more romantic night. I have also found that recycling my "old lingery" still seems new to my hubby. No offense, but he's not real good at remembering if I wore pink lace or red frills last month.

It looks like we may be doing more "at home" vacations this year. Thanks for all the good ideas.

It may sound crazy but my husband and I go to the shooting range near our house for an hour or so. We have so much fun and can congratulate each other when we do well. We just got a shot gun so when it warms up we will be going skeet shooting. It may be weird to some but we love it.

After dealing with me being sick for so long, we have begun to have a date night. In the warmer months we go out to eat 1 Friday or Sat. a month and then after dinner we go to the park to walk, hold hands, and feed the ducks. Sometimes we will take a few hours on a Sat and take drive. I pack lunch and we stop somewhere along the way. Since we live way out in the country, no place close by to get all dressed up and go out ot eat. As far as a movie goes, can't do it, I can't sit up that long and popcorn smell makes me nausous. More date night ideas, yes please. :)

I had some fun throwing a tennis ball back and forth with my hubby last night :) Of course, we were "technically" trying to entertain the dog, but it ended up being a game for us, that we tried to remember to include the dog in. It may sound weird, but playing more active games encourages conversation, and some teasing goes along with it! So that went on for a while, until DH started throwing fastballs into the hallway and a picture frame got in the way...I guess that's why we're told not to throw balls in the house!

DH and I only see each other on the weekends and holidays (its a military reason) so we don't normally go anywhere. Our favorite thing to do is build a fire in the fireplace, rent a movie and snuggle on the couch. We find fun in doing chores together, going for walks, to the grocery store...boring I know..but, in our defense...he is gone so much, the little things become the big meaningful things. We will have been married 21 yrs in May....its obviously working...hehehe..Erica;)

Erica, that sounds great. What ever works.

I enjoy the time driving my Rooster home from work at night because our daughter usually falls asleep in the back seat and we can talk just the two of us on the 30 minute or so drive home. Driving him to and from work gives us about an extra hour of time together that we wouldn't have if he was going to work himself. It sounds silly, but I like an extra hour with him a day. LOL

My husband and I take turns planning our date time together. Some of the things I have done can get pretty crazy. We have no children at home so anything goes. Some of the things we have done, is he gets me up really early have the coffee made, a fire started in our backyard fire pit and we watch the sun come up and just sit and talk. One of the things I did for him was to create a tent in the house and made him a sheik for the night, complete with a picnic type meal all under an over head tent. I got the idea from the movie "The Holiday" where the daughters had a tent in their room. You would be amazed what ideas movies can spur in your imagination.

May the stars carry your sadness away. May the flowers fill your heart with beauty, and may hope forever wipe away your tears. Becky #4932
