I am looking for fresh gifting ideas for 2012. So far I have:

-homemade vanilla extract in 1/2 pint jars
-truffle mold ornaments, and other new ones
-sets of thank you cards made with wallpaper scraps and boxes of envelopes
-another crochet lap blanket for one person
-homemade bath salts in a recycled, plastic, cheese bottle (still seeking a recipe to make this with my garden lavender)

I would love fresh ideas.

Great Idea! Will you share the recipe for the homemade vanilla extract, or is it on your blog?

Happy New Year!

Kristina, since you have lavender make lavender honey.

1/4-1/3 cup dried lavender buds
1 cup honey

Combine in a jar with tight fitting lid and let stand, turning the jar upside down once in a while. After a week, sieve the buds and it is ready to use.

Kristina, something I want to try this year is giving either homemade cookies, or a cookie in a bag gift where you put a recipe for cookies (or cake, or any pastry!) in a cute bag along with all the measured out ingredients. I heard that one a while back, just never tried it before!

I have found so much on Pinterest that I want to try to do! (And that is another reason to start right shortly! Like in February/March! Even though everyone thinks I'm crazy lol).

I'm not sure how to do links, so I'll just put what it is & then the link afterwards.

Some of my ideas already in place are making a tablecloth & placemats & napkins for my Mom's table, crocheting a care bear, some amigurumi animals, curtains for my cousin's living room, some homemade hot chocolate mix. Not sure what else I'll think up (or see on Pinterest!) to make for next Christmas.

I would like to make some outdoor ornaments for birds using bird
seed, peanut butter, etc. Anyone have any ideas as to what all to use, types of ornaments, etc.

Thanks kindly.

Gosh....we made those when my girls were in Brownies. I can't remember what we did. I think we used pine cones to make ours. It will be interesting as to what other farmgirls have to share.

On pintrest they have been showing ones made with just cookie cutters, or molds-like soap/candy molds, bird seed and knox geletin. Do a google and you will probably find a lot of those. For us we are going to smear pine cones with peanut butter and roll in bird seed! lol

well...I know my "unfinished" list is long this year, but I'm adding handmade jewelry to my gifting list for Christmas. I used to make all kinds of stuff years ago, so I'll be back at it now.

I think that if I start now, I might actually finish the snowflake ornaments I tried to make for this past year! I can hope at any rate....

Kristina one of my favorite mothers days gifts was from my son when he was about 4. At church they bought the cheap tool belt size muslin looking aprons. They used blue paint and his little hand prints were all over it.

I am crocheting starfish dishcloths now for my Mom. I may gift them in fall for her birthday or hold them over for Christmas. I am getting ready to start the next dishcloth. They are so cute too.

I saw this idea for bird treats on P. Allen Smith's show and thought they would be an easy gift for the bird lovers on my Christmas list! I'm working on my craft list for the year as well.

Kristina, you do such beautiful quilling work. It's something I've always wanted to learn; do you have any suggestions where to start?

Alyce,
There are books at the library with several patterns for small, beginner projects. You will need a quilling tool and paper. There are kits in craft stores or on-line as well.

You can also cut your own paper, but will still need the tool (and glue). My daughter got a kit from Amazon for Christmas. It's got everything, including a tool to measure circle sizes.

Here is the kit:http://www.amazon.com/Quilled-Creations-Quilling-Kit-Beginner/dp/B000Y8Z9RC

Here is a site to help with shapes etc.
