December 17, it was sunny and nearly 50 degrees today. My bees were very active, going on their cleansing flight and buzzing the chicken yard. I made up a batch of sugar syrup and Honey Be Healthy for them and poured it into their feeder tray. The girls bellied up to the bar so fast that I had to slow down while pouring in the syrup so that I didn't drown any of them. It isn't as good as real flower nectar, but it will keep them from starving. When we have warmer winters, the bees are more active, which makes them more hungry. So they tend to eat more of their honey they have stockpiled because there is nothing to feed on outdoors right now. When it gets down to freezing, the syrup is no longer effective. So hopefully they will eat the syrup and save their honey for bad weather.

Very interesting! I hope to have bees next winter :)

We are also having a warmer than average winter. It got up to 40 today... And very little snow, my house has maybe gotten six inches total, broken up and mostly melted off. We're just waiting for the real winter to kick us in the pants when it gets here.

It is nice you can help them out a little. Seems we all enjoy a freak warmup day in the winter.
