how long barley lasts? I bought some probably about 6 or so years ago and had it in glass jars. Well, I just never did anything with the barley. This morning I thought I'd make beef and barley soup since I am trying to stay away from gluten. It looks good and it is a grain. So I was wondering if it was still ok to use?

If it is the whole grain... should be fine.

I think my barley are few years old also. If you don't see any insects or mold it is fine. Just soak it and boil it.

I put some in my soup and it is good. I did check a few places and it said to keep in the fridge. But I don't see any wierd stuff in the jars. I just hate to throw things out. Well, the chickens would have loved it.
