We have been doing a lot of slow cooker/crock pot cooking the past couple weeks while working on the farm pre-closing. We have noticed that the potatoes and carrots in our meals aren't getting done after being cooked all day. Does this mean the slow cooker is dying, or do other people have an issue with potatoes and carrots? We turn it on about 8 am and eat about 6 pm. Some things we are leaving on low all day because if we leave them on high they are a total pile of mush when we get home. It's like there is no happy medium? Anyone else have these issues?

Funny, I just had this conversation Saturday at a church party. Yes, they do die after a long time of heavy use, and the warming element goes. I'd get a new one.
BTW, Amy, dear...letter is on it's way to you!

Forgot to add...DH bought me a new one a few years ago that has a "keep warm" level to it. After I program how long I want it on high or low, afterward it automatically switches to "keep warm" so we don't come home to overcooked mush. Love it!
