Now that I'm wearing more natural fabrics (and its winter) I have all these sweaters that need to lay flat to dry. Problem is, the only flat surface I have in the laundry room (or anywhere around it) is the top of the washer and dryer. Anyone have any creative ideas for drying all these "lay flat to dry" items? Should I just set up a table somewhere and have that be my sweater table?

Also, any tips on getting them to dry faster? I have one sweater that (no kidding) takes five days to air dry.

There are "trays" that you can get that fit across the bathtub. I don't know if they stack, but they might. Maybe if you put a fan on them to dry, or turn an exhaust fan on (if they're in the bathroom)? I rarely "lay flat to dry", so I'm not much help. Most of my stuff gets hung up.

If you get a little air to circulate they will dry much faster. Something as simple as a window screen over the tub. I have a sweater rack that came with my dryer-don't know why- but it's raised about 2 inches and I just dry sweaters on that on top of the washer. I also use a wooden accordian clothes drying rack and I'll lay a sweater on the top of that to dry.

I always lay mine on the spare bed on a towel. Think I'll try the window screen on the tub idea!

Actually, I fit my sweaters down over the rounded backs of kitchen chairs. They dry just fine that way, then I throw them in the dryer with felted wool dryer balls for a few minutes to fluff them. Works great. I wouldn't worry too much about doing anything fancy. The important thing is just to not dry them in the dryer so they won't shrink, and not hang them with clothespins, for obvious reasons. Screens over the tub are fine, as long as they're really clean and not the kind that can get rusty.
