Started this on my blog today. Lots of recipes for edible treats, some spa-type treats, and some crafty gifts for yourself or to give away. Today, we started with what you can do with basic sugar cookie dough (even just a tube bought from the store), and tomorrow we look at the humble chocolate chip.

Hope you'll join us!

Ann, what a great post! I am looking forward to the series. I didn't know there were so many things you could do with basic sugar cookie dough. I love getting new ideas! :)

We like to stuff our cookie doughs!

It doesn't matter what kind of cookie dough it is, just hand work a little extra flour into it for a stiff dough to 'mold' (or mush, as my kids call it) around hershey kisses, mini reese cups, 4 MnMs or reese pieces, a chunk of toffee, or an andes mint broke in half and stacked.

You can also use the mini tart pans or mini muffin pan and skip the extra flour. Grease the pan, put small amount of dough in the cups, push your filling of choice into dough, then top with a small amount of more dough.

I have even shaped 'log' cookies with small pieces of mini candy canes!

In our house anything small enough to wrap is fair game. I made sugar cookie wrapped dried apricots once for an aunt who loved apricots. She dipped them in chocolate sauce and loved them. That was her favorite way to eat apricots fresh or dried, dipped in chocolate sauce!

Angela, this is a great idea! Did you know that you can add peanut butter to your basic sugar cookie dough and it is AMAZING when you do what you've suggested and stuff it with mini peanut butter cups.

Shoot, that's one I should have put on my list! Peanut Butter cookies are just sugar cookie dough with peanut butter for half the shortening/butter.

Love the candy cane idea - will have to try it with chocolate dough!

Great day, all!

Sounds like a plan! I was planning to make sugar cookies; but, not very artistic. This idea takes care of that.

We've done sugar cookies, chocolate chip cookies, and yesterday we did cupcakes. Today is a knitting project - something for yourself or to give away.

Loved the homemade butterscotch. I think I just might have to brave trying to make candy. It doesn't sound sound so scary how you describe it.

Emily, it's not scary at all, and the end product is so worth it. My kids describe it "like Worther's but much better".

You just have to stir gently, be patient while it heats up, and then be ready to move quickly when the candy reaches the desired temperature. Be sure you have your foil in your pan, and butter it well. Like lots and lots of butter.

Let us know your results!
