I made a purse out of Lion Brand "landscape" yarn. The pattern was on the skein and it took only one skein I believe. I was really happy with how quick it was and I am just a beginner, too.

I have made a few out of wool yarn and then felted them. I got the patterns out of different books I got from the library. there a alot of really nice ones out there, I would just check online too...
