I have amassed a HUGE amount of vintage buttons that I just started listing for sale in my etsy store www.longtallsallys.etsy.com and for the life of me I can't figure out the best way to store and display my buttons here at home. I need easy access to my sorted buttons, but they are so pretty I would like to see them too without having them hidden from sight.
I need some good ideas from my farmgirls....
Talk to me ladies!

CJ - I shared the gumball machine with a friend of mine who had just gotten home from a garage sale where one HAD been for $10!!! She was a little upset with herself as the sale was not really near home...another time. I will certainly keep my eyes out for one though :-)

The Gumball machine idea is so cute! I would just use canning jars or apothecary jars (which would be cute with a vintage label on it :))

Thank you! Thank you! CJ----You're such a nice girl!
I LOVE the idea of the gumball machine! I did a little searching on the net and found old Library card catalogs---Wow, but they are expensive. And oh my all of those drawers!!! DH suggested a "loaded" tackle box, but sheesh they are kinda homely looking. I have a lot of 1/2 pint canning jars-maybe DH can build me a rack with slots and I could have them "tipped at an angle?
Good ideas ladies---Keep 'em coming!

Margo---The card catalog cabinets are frustratingly HIGH. I am amazed at the cost of them. I promised myself that the next time I saw one come up at auction I was going to get it. I tried several years ago at a local auction and the bidding sky-rocketed very fast. I didn't have a chance-The lady who got it was very happy though and I was glad for her.

I knew a lady years ago that had an amazing collection of antique buttons that she had framed. Each frame had a different design of buttons. Although hers were very intricate here are a couple of ones I found online that may give you inspiration.

I forgot to add my suggestions - I was too side-tracked after seeing that beautiful tea set... Anyhoo - old vintage jars or those old glass cannisters for tea and coffee would be good. Canning jars would be nice too. Good luck.

kathy-interesting site! too bad they lumped all 4 pieces into one parcel! i actually like the lil one with no legs!will have to watch that site!

CJ....I owe you so much! Whenever I "need" something I know all I have to do is talk to my friend CJ! The little surprise was really nothing, but I thought to myself "Wow, these would look great incorporated in some of your wonderful paper art that you do so well!" I hope you can use them. As for some of my buttons living at your house-Not a bad idea as they are scattered all over this house of mine. I've gone and done it now starting a "new" collection! At least they are little and won't take up too much room once I find the perfect storage rack-Not like that time I started collecting BREAD BOXES!
Take care CJ

display like colors in ball mason jars. perhaps the old kind that take rubber rings. But if you do this, string matching sets on thread or fishing line to keep them together.

Would you ever want to take the time to sew the truly unique ones on a pillow or even sheer curtains? I think they would be gorgeous. I keep some of my grandmother's and mother-in-law's older costume brooches on a pillow in my bedroom - looks really beautiful.

Hey there! I know I'm a little late in the conversation but wanted to share a couple of ideas. I have part of my buttons in a mason jar that I converted into a lamp with a kit and more in a mason jar that is turned upside down onto a chicken water/feed tray (one of the round ones) that I got at the local MFA. Those come in a couple of different sizes that fit different sized jars. I have them in different locations (the feed/water tray in my kitchen with my chicken collection and the lamp warms up my room at the school where I teach kindergarten/first grade reading)so they are decorative but I can still access the buttons whenever I need or want one! Good luck...organization is always my biggest challenge when it comes to collecting "stuff".
