Rendering fat is the method of melting fat off of a piece of meat (any kind).
EX: when I would render fat from beef I would get get a large piece of meat with lots of fat. Put it into a good sized roast pan and a slow oven. How long it takes depends on how much you have. You will be waiting for all the fat to melt off the meat. Once it's all melted strain it to remove the solids.
thanks, I have been watching this new show in the afternoon and it is called "The Chew". Good show and one of the chefs on there he like using rendered fat than anything else to cook with.. Deborah
rendered fat is also called Lard when its done so if you don't want to render your own you can find 1 lb bars in the grocery store..it is usually rendered pig fat & won't have the strong odor or taste of beef fat...Michele'
I render my own chicken fat: you take the fat and/or skin off of a chicken, put it in a frying pan on low heat, and leave it there for an hour or an hour and a half, turning first every 15 minutes or so, then more frequently as it heats up. You can also do it with turkey or duck fat.
