| First of all, let me tell you all that I purchased Mary Jane's book several months ago and have all but memorized it! My name is Susan Bonham and my husband Cliff and I live in Mount Joy, Pa., a stones throw from Lancaster! Three of our five children and my grandson, Brody, live with us. I was born in Cape May, N.J. and lived in New Jersey until 2 and a half years ago when my husband got a job up here as a plant manager in an egg producing facility. I clean houses, work at ACMoore (a craft store...bad place for me to work!) and take care of my grandson while his mommy works. We live in an old farmhouse with lots of flowers and a big garden in the back. Our neighbors are Amish. I love them all. I enjoy knitting, sewing, scrapbooking, and I love to dance. I have fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis, so crafting is actually therapy for my fingers and hands. I am so enjoying the chatroom you girls talk on. I have been a farmgirl all of my life. I freeze everything out of our garden and I basically live a very simple, humble life. Thank you so much to sunshine who has helped me out tremendously on everything from how to work my computor to how to make yoyo's. It's an honor to talk to other farmgirls and to learn from you all! Welcome Susan! I live in Lamberville NJ and get out your way quite often. My daughter shoots target archery and shoots in Reading alot so I like to go shopping while she is out there. The hayloft quilt shop is one of my favorites. There is one in Denver too but the name escapes me. Working at AC Moore would be deadly for me too. You will love it here and I can tell you will fit right in.

How wonderful to live in such a pretty place with such interesting neighbors! I have always been facinated by the Amish!
You sound like you are going to fit in SO well here..lots of the same interests and way of looking at things as the rest of us. I am glad you are here!

| Thank you for welcoming me into your group! My Amish neighbors have nine children and can really sew up a storm. When their girls turn 16 they are made new clothing for their running around period. The thing I find amazing is that none of them know how to knit! The kids come down and I feed them ice cream and popsicles. They have a kitchen in their basement where they produce baked goods to sell to small country stores around here. They bring stuff to us all of the time! They make the best whoopee pies! But I enjoy them so much because we actually sit down and talk to each other about things that are happening in our lives. My other Amish neighbors have four small children who also come to visit us. They bring us all kinds of veggies (to add to our own) and this year we received plums off of their trees. I had the impression in the beginning of our friendship that they viewed englishers as people who couldn't bake or sew or anything...that is until they met me! Now that they know who I am...the mother has asked me to show her how to knit this winter after all the field work is done! Color me happy! |

Welcome Susan! It sounds like you have fabulous neighbors!! My brother and sister-in-law live in Delaware where there is also a large Amish population. I love to see them coming down the road in the horse and buggy. You know, with the price of gas, they may have the answer!!!

| Hi Susan, aren't you lucky to have Amish neighbours! If I lived in America I think I would try my hardest to join their flock (learning german would be a struggle though!), they're such resourceful and peaceful people. It sounds like you have a very fulfilling life, and a lot to offer this group, welcome! |

Welcome, Susan. Oh, to work in a craft store - I've always thought that would be heaven, but I suppose, even if you get a staff discount, it can be too tempting. I already have enough different projects and materials to last five lifetimes!!
I have a friend with rheumatoid arthritis and she still sews, really fine embroidery work - she does it even if it is painful as she says she has to keep her hands moving and, like you, she says what better way to do therapy than producing something beautiful.

So glad you could join!! The book is wonderful and am glad you found it! Sounds like you fit in perfectly! I too have FM and understand that all to well! I think it is wonderful you have Amish neighbors! They are wonderful people and I have never met one I did not like and have a deep respect for them! I look forward to getting to know you better as I see around!!!

That is impressive the Amish want you to teach them that really shows well for your knitting skills. I can't knit very well. i can make scarfs not any thing like I would like to one day I will take some knitting classes to bad you don't live closer. I want to learn how to knit so I can knit lace.
