I am in the process of putting all of my pattern envelopes in plastic sheet protects, then I will put them in a loose-leaf binder with tabs for the catagories. My patterns themselves are in quart ziplok bags with the pattern number written on the front. I have stored my pattersns numerically in plastic storage boxes this way for years. Currently some of my pattern envelopes are in small sheet protectors inside small binders. The problem is I cannot find that size sheet protector anymore, and I have to take the pattern out of the sleeve to read the back. Now, I am cutting them open to lay flat, trim the edges to fit the sheet protector and this way I can see the front and back of the pattern at the same time. When I go shopping I can pull out the pattern I am working with and take it with me. Just thought I would share.

I did that with all my loose patterns of crochet, counted cross-stitch, etc. Works great! I never thought of doing it with sewing patterns though. I wonder if I have enough room on my bookshelf for them. |

I have been doing that for years. I put the pattern pieces in a Manilla envelope with the pattern number but then I number the manilla folder (1, 2, 3,etc.) Then I only put the pattern envelope with a corresponding number written on the pattern envelope in my 3 ring binder. I can see all of my patterns at a glance and it's so easy to put the pieces in the envelope without having to iron them small enough to fit. The manilla envelope with the actual pattern is in a file drawer but the binder is on the shelf.
