I am Betty Weeks, 60 years old, and I love the country. A friend showed me the last issue of Mary Jane's magazine as she knows I sell the air purifier mentioned in the "Home Safe Home" section. I absolutely fell in love with all that Mary Jane offers. I bought all back issues that are available, have bought both books, and also two sampler packs of organic food. I guess you can tell I'm hooked. Seven years ago was able to get a place with 5 acres on the Ohio/Indiana border. A city slicker moved to the country. What a seven years, but I'm still there. I am so glad to have found you ladies.

Thanks for all the welcomes. I do love this forum and see that some happy wonderful people are here.

As I mentioned I am 60 (I keep repeating that because I can't believe it). Was married in 1968 (age 22) had two sons, now 34 and 30, was married for 11 years, divorced for 20 years(he was alcoholic) and he passed away 7 years ago. Have never remarried, but raised my two sons and we are happy. 34 year old is married so I have a grandson, 12, and a grandaughter, 9, she was the first girl in the Weeks family in 21 years. Do you doubt that she has every ruffle and ribbon and purse imaginable.

I worked as a secretary until my youngest was 18, then I quit and started a mailing business and have done that for 12 years. It is hard work and I usually work 12 to 14 hours a day. Sometime ago I learned of a company that makes healthy and environmental friendly products and have gradually been working toward making the move to start that as a business so that I don't have to work so many hours.

Since I started the mailing business, I haven't been able to keep up with what I really like to do, crochet, any type of hand stitching, and just about any crafts. I love to decorate my home. I am a pack rat, I go to a lot of yard sales, etc. People laugh at me but when they want something, I usually have it. My son who is 30, is not married and still lives at home. He says when he gets married he is not going to have anything in his house. I tell him we just need a bigger house, but he says I would fill that one too. I love old things and collect chintz dishes.

I do live in the country on 5 acres and want to start organic farming. I'll post on my home and dreams tomorrow. I think I'm being too long winded, but I haven't told my story in a long time.

Love ya.
Betty

Hi Betty. I'm from Cincinnati--was born there, but now live in a Columbus suburb. I still have much family there. I think my uncle must not be too far from you--he's in Loveland--is that near you? He lives on some land with his wife's horses. They love it out there and hold family reunions at their place every so often.

Hope you're feeling better.

Hi everyone, am finally well, thanks for your concern. I don't usually get bronchitis in the summer.
Buttercup, it's so wonderful you have a friend in Cincinnati. If you ever visit, please be sure to let me know.
Barbara in Ohio, Loveland is not too close, but I have been there to Miss Annabelles Tea Shop. She meets you and you put on big hats and gloves and have tea, sandwiches, and dessert with clotted cream.
Frannie, I was born in Jellco TN, so maybe I could stop by on one of my trips home. I love to go to Berea also.

As I mentioned before, we moved to the country with little knowledge of land and whatever. We had a lot of problems. It rained and rained and there had not been any thing done for water run-off. We got so much water in the basement before my sons dug trenches along the back of the property to keep water from the house. We had septic system problems, we had squirrels climb the electric pole and knock out our electric. We had the bridge to our property go down because of flooding eroding the creek banks. The bridge is so expensive to replace that we had roads cut down the banks and drive when we can and put on boots and walk out when we have to. But in all this I have come find out the beauty of creek rock and our creek is loaded with beautiful boulders, granite and others. I have also found that the boulders look better in their natural setting than
they do in someone's yard. I hope to do some organic farming and am trying to get my sons to build some elevated garden sites as I can't get down like I used to. I have been so encouraged to forge ahead since finding out about Mary Jane and her books and the Farmgirl Connection.
Thanks everyone,
Betty
