I recently joined and have only done one swap -- a postcard exchange. Four postcards to two partners. The postcards need to be mailed by today.

I'm Ruby V! I just joined Swapbot, was kind of complicated figuring out the profile info {laughing}. Then I got a messg from them saying I was supposed to get an email verification, but so far, it hasn't arrived yet.

I put swapbot on my favorites to join later-maybe in the new year-life is just too crazy now. It's funny-I have no problem with posting/sending anything to any Farmgirl but when swapbot suggested that they are world-wide and you should probably get a P.O.box for your mail to go to, it unsettled me a bit. My DH checked out P.O. Box rates for me and that was fine. I just haven't gotten back to rent one. Does the international thing unsettle any of you or am I just being too careful? Anybody else thinking P.O. Box? I may join sooner now that I know Farmgirls are there. It looked like a fun place to be with lots of interesting swaps, so I'm definately interested. Joey

I am not going to participate in international swaps, due to postage. Didn't the anthrax get sent from the US? You can select regional, and it will show you US swaps only.
I'm more scared of getting bed bugs from an ebay box than getting a terrorist ATC.

I'm not sure why anyone would be more hesitant to do an international swap? As far as someone from another country knowing your address, is that what you mean? If I was worried about that type of thing, I think I'd feel much safer having someone across the world know my address than someone else living much closer {laughing} I've never realy worried about people online knowing my address. Anyone could do a simple search and find me anyways, I guess. I've met people in real life, that I met first on the net and was always a good experience, so guess I've been lucky and don't give it alot of thought.

Interesting you should mention bed bugs - I just read an article this morning about how some libraries are starting to discover bed bugs in their books! That's really going to make me think twice before checking out any more library books. Geeze, what next! {laughing}

The only reason that I wouldn't do international is postage costs. I've done international for postcard swaps and it's not much more spendy than US, but packages tend to suck my wallet dry.

As for renting the PO box, I saw no reason for it. However, my address is about as confusing as it gets. I actually live in a different town, in a different county than my address, so nobody could find me unless they knew right where to look.

I signed up to do a Christmas card swap for my first swap. Just want to see how I do with it before getting into anything else.

Bed bugs in library books!?!?

I personally don't see a need to have a PO box. Maybe I'm too trusting but until I have an experience that causes me to rethink things I'm not going to worry over milk that hasn't spilled yet.

I have a strong suspicion that the founders of Swapbot have the suggestion of using a PO Box there to cover their butts from a legal standpoint. That way if someone does received something questionable in the mail as a result of a connection on their website they can say they told you so and not be held responsible for it.

I'm open to doing international swaps in the flat category to start with. I love getting mail from other countries. Depending on how that goes I might venture into larger items at some point. I agree that the cost of postage is definitely a consideration when choosing international swaps.

Looking forward to perusing the swaps and signing up for one or two soon. I'm heading into a busy time of the year with my job and volunteer activities so I'm gonna have to go easy at first.

Cheers! ~ Marilyn

I don't know what I was thinking..more identity theft than terrorist, I guess. I have no problem with international mail and actually ENJOY getting mail from foreign countries. The PO Box thing just seemed strange to me. Thanks for all your replies. I think I'll skip the PO box when I actually get around to joining. Joey
