I just wanted to chime in and say that ACV and dish soap worked very well for me. I just learned about it on a different website a couple of weeks ago and tried it and they were gone in a couple of days. I love to find ideas that are not chemical based and really work.

Its sad that we have to use different measures for fly control on different flies. Too bad one thing didn't work on all.

Dreaminofmygardens, you didn't put any dish soap in the jar? That would be the first I've heard that used ACV and no dish soap for fly control.

I have been so vexed with these pests lately and I found this idea yesterday and put up two jar systems to test it out. drumroll please*****immediate success!!!!*********** Oh my, I had NO idea there were that many of these flies in my kitchen! I used the apple cider, one drop of dish detergent added, plus a small piece of ripe watermelon, and the paper cone method. There are so many dead flies in the two jelly jars that I am going to clean them out and put fresh ingredients in both jars today and see what happens. This system is amazingly simple and effective. And this farmgirl is so HAPPY!!!

My friend tried white vinegar and found it didn't work, but brandy did. She caught 27 flies in 10 minutes. Expensive, but effective.

I put out a small cup with apple cider vinegar yesterday, have not caught anything yet but I still have them buzzing around...how long does this take?

Okay, then try what a heard on another forum for fly control. Put out a cup of coffee with sugar in it see if that works. I know sounds silly but it worked for someone.

Darlene, if that coffee method doesn't work, have you tried any kind of fly strips for how to get rid of flies? There is a recipe for homemade ones.
