Hi everyone. I am from West Central Illinois, and ran onto this forum by accident--sure glad I did. I live just outside of town (2 miles) on a dead end road off of a county blacktop. My parents passed away in 2000, so we have a 40 acre farm next to our "farmette" also. I planted a herb garden last year, mostly for cooking--and used quite a few herbs. I can't wait to get started this year! I would like to know more about medicinal herbs.

Welcome aboard Cindy,
You have found a wonderful forum to fit your life style. What are your plans for the 40 acres next to you? Sounds like an exciting future for you! There are lots of books out there that discuss medicinal Herbs and your local library can probably get you started with a selection to look at and decide which ones will assist you in your area as far as which ones grow native and which ones can be cultivated there. There is another thread to this discussion forum where herbs are discussed at length and several of us have given input about our own personal favorites from our book shelves. Take some time and read throught the other sections and chime in where you feel like it. We all love to go back to some of the former topics for a refresher from time to time and a newbie always helps us get there.

Hi Cindy and welcome - I am from the Springfield area, born and raised until I was 19. Now I live in Florida. Glad you have joined our ranks, and I look forward to hearing more about your farm and your herbs.

40 acres! You lucky girl. I remember every spring, the hardtops would be resurfaced with tar, and driving your car down them, no matter how slow, would result in lots of tar removal when you got home!

Cindy,

Hi! I know Macomb, very well..I am from Carthage, just 14 miles away. You wouldn't have a son named Jeremy would you? I get down that way 4 or 5 times a year. Glad to have you on the boards!

No, I don't have a son named Jeremy, just Chris, Joe & Jeff. My husband is in Carthage twice a week. Small world!
