I read a post Jonnie had done that touched me greatly about a family struggling in her town and only worried about seeing to the needs of their little girl no matter if it caused them embarrassment. Then tonight as I was surfing blogs I came across this article and just had to share. It may have gone through MJF before but I don't think we can read this one too many times. You're most welcome Trish and yes Angie it truly makes you realize that when you look at someone there are parts of them you really don't know. After reading it I felt ashamed of myself for the unchristian thoughts I've had lately about my grandson's mother. She and my son never married. He wanted too but her history is long and I won't go into it out of respect for her privacy. The thing is she's been without electricity all summer and now its starting to turn cool. I know my son gave her quite a bit of money this summer to help her pay her bill when he found out her need and apparently she never did. When I found this out a couple days ago I was not happy. I worry for my grandson and from what my son has said she is not a frugal person and is frequently neglectful of her financial obligations. For a long time she wasn't working but now she is and has been for several months. She has 3 other children. My mind of course went right to the kids and I took a "How can she neglect her kids like that?" approach and after reading this article it changed my thoughts to how can I help? Sometimes I need a kick in the pants to set me to rights. This article sure did it.

What a wonderful reminder to all of us! I've walked those shoes before, not fun at all- has taught me not to judge and help where and when I can. It is good to have the reminder, we can get so caught up in our own lives we sometimes forget to look past ourselves! Thank you!!

Cheryl,
It's hard to see your grandchildren, who have no control over the situation, suffer.
Just a suggestion-instead of giving her $, go directly to the power co. & pay the utility bill. That way the funds will not be misdirected.

i had not read this before -however- i LIVED a very similar life in 2005 and 2006 with my hubby; long story very short -
we bought a repo house- he got deathly ill-i remember crying as i pushed a lawnmower that kept stalling in the knee high grass thinking about the community and what they would think of us!
and there was more!
just getting dressed well enough to come to work at the bank some days.....
anyhow- thanks for sharing!

Ty everyone for your comments. I think most people have walked in this woman's shoes for various reasons. It is a good reminder not to jump to conclusions. Bottom line....treat others as you'd like to be treated.
