I love the look of Swiss Chard and grew some this year but I have no idea what to do with it? Do you eat it like greens? Raw like in a salad? Help educate me please!

Hey Audrey, The best use ive found for swiss chard is on tomatoe sandwiches...i always disliked tomatoes on bread UNTIL I discovered swiss chard. They are a perfect pair.

Here is my favorite way to use it:
In a pan, heat up some olive oil. Sautee a little garlic. then throw in the stems of the swiss chard, chopped. After a few minutes, throw in the swiss chard leaves, and sprinkle with a little salt and pepper.
Sometimes I eat this as is. Sometimes I mix it with some pasta and some parmesian. If I want something heartier, I cook an egg with the swiss chard, melt some cheddar on it, and eat it on top of rice.
I also substitute cooked swiss chard leaves wherever a recipe calls for cooked spinach.

sauted with olive oil, garlic and a pinch of red pepper flakes. Or sauteed with potatoes, onions and bacon then topped with two sunny side up eggs on top of a whole wheat tortilla.

I steam the chard then put it into a baking dish (first drain it) pour a little cream on a small amount of butter , salt and pepper and top with some bread crumbs. Bake about 20 minutes in a 350 oven.

I use it wherever I'd normally use spinach (in quiche, in an omlette, sauteed with garlic, in bacon grease on pizza with goat cheese and fresh mozzarella and tomatoes.

They all sound tastey! I guess I'll just have to try each of your suggestions. Thanks ladies!

I eat swiss chard, kale, and collards plain in sandwiches! I grow in my garden 6 months out of the year and just eat it fresh. Sometimes I make green smoothies. You can't taste anything with the fruit you add. I love the greens :)
