My mom called me from her car to see if we were okay since she heard it was felt in New York City, since we are so close. We didn't feel it here. (At least I didn't notice anything when it happened, we were outside). Scary stuff, though. Pretty day here in Connecticut.

Hugs,

Nicole

I have a lot of friends from where we were stationed before on the southeastern coast of NC and they said it shook their houses. Most of them thought it was just artillery though. It's a Marine base, you get used to it!

I heard it shook some buildings in NYC, but from what I can tell it was felt far worse more South. Hope your friends and their homes are all okay, Liz.

I was walking the dog during lunch and didn't feel it but hubby was out running errands and felt it in car.

Our daughter works in Winston Salem in one of the high rises downtown and they really felt it, had some of them running into the halls and outside, shook them up pretty good.

DH is in Richmond so he felt it and everyone panicked and tried to get outside of the building they were in. I heard people felt it in Savannah but I didn't notice anything.

We felt it here in Northeast PA. I as sitting at my computer at work, and my chair started to shake. The people who work on the 2nd floor felt it even more. It was really weird!

We sure felt in in Warrenton, Virginia! Because we're only about 40 miles west of Washington DC and the folks I was in a meeting with at the time are of the "duck and cover" generation, the first thing a lot of us thought was THE BOMB! We actually checked the horizon for signs of a mushroom cloud and made grim jokes about it. I kid you not.

When I got back to my 100-year-old farmhouse later in the day, I noticed all the pictures on the walls were at different angles, no two the same. A few things had fallen to the floor, but thank goodness, no damage. We've had several aftershocks since then, but all in the dead of night. I've slept through them all!

Have y'all seen that picture that's making the rounds online, of the plastic lawn furniture with one chair tipped over? It says "Virginia Earthquake 2011— We WILL Rebuild!" It's funny, but probably not to folks near here who did have horrible damage. My husband, who grew up in LA, and is very smug about the whole thing. He says Californians use 5.8 earthquakes to stir their coffee!
