I know most of us here are "au natural" girls in terms of makeup and such, but we do want to take care of our skin and occasionally enjoy using some products to "dress up" with. In my alternative reading this weekend, I came across an article that discusses the dangerous substances lurking in even "natural" cosmetic products. Apparently the European Union is setting strict standards about what is acceptable and what is not in their countries. Some U.S. companies are interested in complying with these standards, although you know it's not the "big ones". I was dismayed to look up my moisturizer to find that it rated higher that I thought it would in terms of bad things in it! (Cetaphil)... so, in an effort to learn more I researched some more and found these links, which I'm sharing with you. Knowledge is power!!!

The article regarding EU updates, etc.:

Companies in the U.S. that have signed the compliance agreement:

Thanks Clare for the links. I am currently working with a local company who refuses to use any thing in their products on any list of no nos. They have a wonderful moisturiser you might like to try. you can see their site at jpdurga.com. i can probably send you a sample if you would like to give it a try.

Thanks for the recommendation, Eileen! Here's a link where they can get added to the list of companies that accept these standards... it even sounds like they are way ahead of the game... http://www.safecosmetics.org/companies/compact_with_america.cfm

I printed out the whole site for them to read and am seeing them in the next hour or so. I am sure they will want to be on this list.

You won't believe what I found on one website (I'm not mentioning it because it does have some useful products, and this is just one thing they sell): baby cologne! Can you imagine that? Yes, I did buy it (it was very inexpensive), and it does smell just like baby talc. But cologne for a baby? Are we being duped by industry or what???

This is exactly the information that I have been looking for! This is the young fab femme, and I don't use much skin products or cosmetics because I'm lazy and you never know!! This proves my thoughts were at least somewhat ont he right track! Thanks, now I can make informed decisions about my future skin care!
