I love Sunday dinners. We just had 16 people for dinner today. My SIL, step dad and best friend's husband all brought their guitars and played and sang in the living room. I told them they had to sing for their dinner! There were 6 kids running in and out. I roasted one of my turkeys we butchered. I made cornbread dressing, gravy, pinto beans, green beans, mac and cheese, hash brown casserole, squash casserole, slaw, rolls. And for dessert, blueberry and peach cobbler with ice cream, cantaloupe and watermelon. And it was all GOOD! Not much left. I love that when most of the food's all gone.
I was just thinking that it takes half the day to cook all this, a few minutes to eat it, then the rest of the day to clean it up. What fun! But I want to do this every Sunday now.
What did y'all do today?
Kris

I wish I had been at your house - that is the way to spend a Sunday afternoon with family, making memories. Dave and I went out after church - good food, but sure would have liked to have been with family. It is too bad that it takes so long to cook and clean up, and such a short time to devour all your fine cookin. Did the family help clean up? Mine alway does, and we actually enjoy that part of the process too. Great time to catch up with what is going on in everyone's lives. Our gang is coming to the mountains Sept 24th weekend to go apple picking and spend time with Grammy and Pop :)! So looking forward to it. Glad you had a wonderful Sunday :) Hugs, Ruth

Boy, that just sounds like such a wonderful day. We are just two of us and so we had a very quiet and restful Sunday. But this evening, after having seen The Help on Friday, I started craving a chocolate pie. So guess what I have in the oven right now!! An old fashioned baked chocolate pie just like in the movie. Well....minus their one, special ingredient, that is! :-)

That's what was missing here, something chocolate. That pie sounds so good. What's the one special ingrediant? I have to see the movie now. I have heard so much about it.
Yes, I do have help cleaning up. Actually, Heather did alot of it. She did good. I just need to run the dishwasher now. Had to take a shower first. It was hot here today.
Ruth, are y'all going to that apple orchard we went to? I think if I want any apples I will have to go to an orb=chard where there are no chickens. Mine are going to egt all my apples. I want to make cider this year. I dried most of my apples last year. A friend has a press and we go there to make it. It's so fun. I hope y'all have a wonderful time together.

Kristin, I don't want to spoil the movie for you!! You'll just have to see it to find out! But the pie was yummy. Rich as sin, but oh my. I'll be putting the recipe and photos up at the blog tomorrow. :-) We have musicians in our family too and so when the whole crew gets together we have guitars, banjo, mandolin, dulcimer, harmonica and drums with harmony singing. Love every minute of it!!

Hahahahahaha!!! I just saw that movie yesterday. I hope to never use that special ingredient or come across it being used in food EVER. Kristin, sounds like a great day! My boyfriend and I made 'county apple dumplings' after having mac-n-cheese, barbecue chicken, and green beans for dinner. What an AMAZING way to end the day :)

What a nice Sunday! We had chocolate chess pie with our Sunday dinner. When the whole family gets together for dinner after church, our family tradition is the men do the dishes!

Kris, You have to see the movie - you will love it :) Take tissue, but it is also quite funny. Best movie we have seen in a very long time :) Mary Beth, looking forward to your Chocolate Pie Recipe - I'll never look at a Chocolate Pie again the same way I used to :) Hugs, Ruth
