This seemed like a fun topic. I'm curious what fictional mom you identify your parenting style with-- Me I just realized the last time I watched Green Gables that I *am* Marilla Cuthbert, only a little less stubborn.

I'm a tough woman, and I can be very strict, and I can be exasperated by "foolishness". But the lessons I give my children are rooted in a deep love. Even if I'm not overly mushy, or sentimental, I make sure they know how proud I am of their accomplishments and how much I care for them.
My faith is my backbone, and I have strong opinions that I am not easily swayed from, and I have no trouble telling a busybody like Rachel Lind off ;)

What a great post!

What kind of a mother am I?

I'm not a very affectionate mom...guess it's the way I was brought up. I never liked that about myself.

I have always encouraged my children to expand their horizons and to get out there and see the world....to read, read, and read some more and strive to "give back" to others and leave positive foot-prints wherever they would go.

I'm fearless when it comes to protecting and sticking up for my family. Must be the Leo in me!

I would have liked to have been more like Olivia Walton! I admired her grace, her steady nature and her tolerance. And even with all those kids around her, she could still maintain her own sense of self.

It's been a struggle at times being a mom, frustrating, exasperating and every once in a while disappointing and then on the other hand, I have been so proud of them and how they have turned out. Exhilarating too... watching them mature and come into their own.

Man, I'm going to have to think on this one. All I can come up with is a weird cross between the mom from Malcolm in the Middle and Caroline Ingalls. How is that even possible!?!

Great topic! And I especially love that I am in a "place" where people even KNOW about Marilla Cuthbert, Caroline Ingalls, and Olivia Walton! Talk about kindred spirits! I am going to have to give this one some thought and I'll get back to ya!

I asked DH to see what he thought and he said, "Ripley from Aliens." He said all I needed was a machine gun. So I guess I'm not the huggy kissy type but very protective and ready to fight aliens.

I'll have to think on this one...I probably aspire to be like Carolyn Ingles, but am probably really more like Patricia Heaton's character, "Frankie" on The Middle.

Oh Jonni,
You are NOT Frankie!! I LOVE that show. I adore Sue, with her eternally optimistic attitude & silver smile.
& the episode where Brick's under the breath word was "menopause". Loved that one

I am really nervous, i used to disinfect everything. I am married to Evil Knevil, so over time, I have loosened up. My house is messy, but we had a good day. We play Space Station Aliens and guitar, we sing Walking After Midnight.
I don't ask for a kiss. I ask for two. My back hurts because I carry my 4 y/o like a baby. I'm only having one, I need to love him up as much as he'll let me. He smells like sugar and sunshine, and trouble :)
Owen throws fits in stores, because according to everyone, I should have disciplined him more. Oh well. I don't like the word no, either. It's hard to get mad at a kid that is crying, "Thank you, Ma'am," to the cashier.

But really, I am Mama, from Throw Moma from the Train. I didn't have the healthiest of childhoods, and was always afraid I would be a horrible parent. Mama is horrible to Owen in that movie, and HE DOESN"T KILL HER!!!
And that is the honest to goodness truth why I named Owen, Owen. And also because I have 13 first cousins and they all have kids.

"No wire hangers."

Might be showing my age here (it's my DD favorite movie). Even gave her a wire hanger one day with a note that said " no wire hangers". She still has it!

My husband and I are the epitomes of Dharma and Greg. The show describes us to the T. I suppose as a mother you could compare me to Dharma's mom Abby. I'm just as Crunchy Earthmamaish as she is.

I love this posting!! So many good posts that I can totally relate to. When I read that you were Marilla, I laughed but then realized I'm a little bit like Marilla too in that I don't oogle over every thing my kids do.

Characterwise, I totally relate to the mother in the cartoon strip "For Better or For Worse."

Theory-wise, I am a Dr. Sears mom almost to the core.

The next interesting topic would be "what kind of wife are you?" -- THAT might be interesting. Ha ha

Thought about this a little more over the weekend. I think I'm probably more like Meredith Baxter Bernie's mom, Elyse Keatin in Family Ties combined with Michael Learned's Livie Walton.

could she have said "frivolos"? as some type of slang meaning frivolity? or did she maybe actually say frivolities? I can't remember >_<
