Hi girls! Recently, we started up a new Chapter here in Wisconsin (Hay River Farmgirls). We've had two meetings so far, with a great turn out and a great group of women. As the moderator, I am super excited about all the enthusiasm! So far, we've started a farm-themed book group (this past month, we read Farm City; next month, it's Hit by A Farm) and had a taste-test sharing of favorite late summer canning recipes. I've been thinking it would be fun to contribute to our community somehow, but I am stuck on ideas. What have your chapters been doing? There's a plethora of other clubs in the area, like Lions, Civic, Jaycees, Masons, etc., that do a lot of things like clean-up of parks, planting of flowers, and food drives for the local food pantry. There's even a group that does biweekly soup suppers in the park! I need some new ideas, so I can pitch them to my girls and see what they think. So, come on ladies, share!

I always recommend setting up clothing drives twice yearly and setting up "shop" in a church basement or school gym and have people come "shop" for free for the day or weekend at the free thrift store. It's a great use of freecycling, and you make arrangements with a local charity thrift to pick up anything left over.
Kids especially always need clothes and shoes. The key is to make it all about a fun, freecycle "pick me up" for your "customers" And less about "charity" with no mention of income-- many people on the cusp of poverty still can't afford school clothes for their kids in the fall.
