Years and years ago I started using burlap for table runners, mantle covers, etc. It's all the rage now, apparently :) I liked it for the texture and low cost. It does require a wash, because it has a distinctive SMELL! Washed in the gentle cycle, with some softener, threw in the dryer. Nice and soft, and raggedy edge. Just clean out that lint trap, wow it was FULL! It will be off a bit straightness wise, beware. But, hey, it's burlap! $3.00 a yard here.
Today I washed my burlap bean bag I emptied, and stuffed it! New pillow!
also add a few new burlap "ribbons" I made to some things I already had to add some texture, just used a little "Liquid Nails) glue on the back to hold it up, and keep from sliding down-
a little hanging basket I got at the grocery store:
and a french country topiary I made years ago, changed the paint, added the bow!
Be the change...

Very creative. I have some old burlap I buy in rolls at Lowe's for the garden. It's very soft after a season of covering plants from the sun.

I made some Market Bags to sell for our dog park...
I've had colored burlap on hand for 20 years, finally a pattern to use it! The pattern is here... http://thelongthread.com/?p=8400

Many years ago (when I was a teenager) I made a wall hanging out of burlap for my dangle earrings. I finished the sides and made a casing up top for a wooden dowel. (I later tied a piece of yarn to both ends of the dowel so I could hang it. Anyway, after finishing the seams I did pulled thread embroidery along the sides and bottom. I also embroidered flowers above the open work on the bottom, and fringed it as well. The openess of the burlap was great for hanging wire earrings. This would be a great project for a teenager or a great gift to give them.
