ok, update on what to do with old whiskey decanters,,, last night I was yakking away with kpaints,,,ok, a little gossiping thrown in for good measure! any how,,, she suggested filling the decanter with 'bath salt' . You can buy pretty colored & scented bath salts (I have seen them oddles of times at the local Dollar type stores) or you can make your own with good old epsom salt, food color & E.O. just mix a cup or two(how ever much you want to make) into a large glass mixing bowl, add a few drops of food color and mix well until the color is distributed...then add about 20 drops of esential oil (your favorite scent) again mix well.. pour into a contatiner that you can seal up (think tupper ware) shake well and then let rest for a few days.. then pour into the decanter & give it as a gift to a friend or even yourself!

Sharon . . aka "Calicogirl" . . and I went thrifting and to lunch together yesterday. YAY! First of all we had a WONDERFUL, FUN time together. We had lunch at "The Farm" a local farm-to-table restaurant and it was just the best. There are 3 thrift stores locally and we went to all of them and found some fun treasures.
I saw this doll, wasn't going to buy her, but then decided to because a). she is SOOOOO cute; b). I don't have a doll' and c). well, why not! She is a Mattel talking doll (needs batteries) made in 1995 and by her hair I believe she is Native American. The dress is well made but homemade. I live in an area were this is a very large Navajo and Ute Native American population and the dress is not typical of something they would wear. I think she is one of the Cabbage Patch dolls but don't know that for sure. My internet search by the info and # on the back of her head indicates that she might be one of the CP dolls. Anyone out there know any more?
She has the cutest dimpled knees, elbows and tush!!!
A fun toothbrush holder (sign says "CAMPERS, do not feed the bears" and that is the back end of a bear going into the tent), a 1983 limited edition Quaker Oats tin and an antique leather bound, 50-ft tape measure (I believe I have another one like this that was my dad's in storage with some of his other tools from the farm).
This lacy afghan has pink flowers on one side and white on the other. There is a dresser scarf, 3 cream colored napkins trimmed in lavendar crochet, an unhemmed cross-stitched piece, crocheted collar, and hot pad.
Gleaned from the different shops and TOTAL cost less than $15.00. And, a fun, special day with Sharon, my farmgirl friend! CJ

Nice score, Kristina and CJ... Love the doll - she is too cute.
I had a nice score too - a hard back copy of All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot for twenty five cents! I gave to a farmgil because we were just talking about the book and she said she'd like to read it.
Then - even though this isn't at a thrift store - I went to Rural King and bought a ton of really nice wool socks that were 75% off - making them $1.25 a pair. I bought some in the fall - liked them - and wishing I had bought more. Then I found this sale - I bought some more for me and some for gifts. AND they're made in the USA... Woo Hoo!!!

Cute doll CJ. My mom has a doll collections and hasn't added anything to it for years. I think she may have given herself a limit on her collection - ha ha ha!
Love the other items too. Our goodwill puts $3.00 price tags on doilies, no matter what size (over priced in my opinion). I found a green one and another variegated one for $.50 each the other day at another store. One is under my pin cushion, and one under the hand cream in the bathroom. I told dh that I got "smart." I don't expect myself to may "everything" anymore, and buying a few already made is okay too.
I love vintage mugs, tea cups, tablecloths, and other linens. Our stores just don't have them here. I may try in another town some day this spring.

Kristi, Other than our Salvation Army thrift store they are not part of a "chain" (if that's what you want to call it) like Goodwill. So, it's pretty much up to the shop as to how they price. The one for the battered women shelter is the best one for linens and doilies, craft items and fabrics. . . and the best variety of items. And their prices are soooooo reasonable. They all have decent prices but it seems that you can pretty much predict what they will have and what they won't. I sometimes find doilies and such at the SA store as well but hardly ever at the Methodist church store. They are all pretty well organized as well too, which I know has to be a daunting task. The only exception to that would be the way the fabric is handled at the SA store. It is such a mish-mash that I hardly ever look in it. Anyway, it's always a unique experience and waaaaayyyy more fun with a friend. Sharon and I were having a blast finding outlandish clothing items that we thought the other one needed to buy and wear. We was a lot of very pink towels and such in one place and talked about taking a pic of us with them and emailing it to "Dutchy" to tell her we were thinking of her. However, they were too gaudy and I'm pretty sure NOT "Dutchy's" style. Sharon and I will do it again . . . the one thing about thrifts stores is that their inventory is constantly changing. Come on over Kristi . . you can go with me! CJ

OK you two,,, sounds like you got into some real 'mischief' :>) I love the small "support' Thrifts like Battered Womens and others that support a particular cause like animal shelters, cancer, and Senior Center programs.
My mom lives down in the Palm Springs/Palm Desert area (in Calif) and she volunteers at their her Church Thrift... She is always finding doillies and linnens for me... She said they tag them for 50cents and can't hardly sell them....OMG! The Goodwill and other Thrifts up here tag them for around $2.00 I need a 'field trip' to Palm Springs! lol!

Well, Graceie we did get into some mischief! But we had a ball. It was quite fun when the two of us with the shopkeeper where I bought the doll were trying to figure out what kind of doll she was. There's a little signature on her tush and so we were trying to read that and laughing at the dimples there . . being silly. All the while a gentleman was waiting to pay for his purchases. The shopkeeper apologized for not noticing sooner and he said "Oh no problem, I was actually enjoying listening to you ladies".!!! Oh my!
And, yes, come to Colorado and you can go "play" with Sharon and me . . and get doilies for 25 cents! CJ

Okay, so I'm poking around Ebay this morning looking at this 'n' that, including vintage "train cases". I found one that is EXACTLY like one that went with the luggage set my parents bought me for my high school graduation gift. That's what they bought all their kids for high school graduation. It was "Monarch" brand and blue . . I still have the big suitcase, and I lost the middle one in our house fire in July 1994. However, I don't remember what happened to the train case.
I show my hubby the pic of this one and tell him it is the very same one I had. He says, "well, I have one out in the shop like that . . it was something my dad had an assortment of things in". So I go out to get it and it's buried out there and totally covered with dirt and sawdust, still with the things his dad put in it.
Well, it is NOT the same as the Monarch one so it doesn't match. We even thought if it was the same it quite possibly could have been mine and I either gave it to him or something.
This is what it was . . . I cleaned it up and lookie, lookie! I have a new "train case" in very, very good condition . . it's been sitting in my hubby's shop for 4 years! CJ

On a whim I decided to go to the thrift today and am glad I did :)
I found a hand crank coffee mill (probably a reproduction but neat nonetheless) for $5.00 and a sweet little creamer with bluebirds on it for $1.00
