I was gifted baby food jars to put our medicinal salves in. A friend and I got together yesterday and made salves for burns, infections, etc. We also made lip balm for her daughter who is 11. We had a blast. Trying to learn medicinal skills that do not involve the use of pharm. drugs. Been great fun. |

Great idea Kem!!! I want to try making my own medicinal salves as well.
My most recent finds were an antique floral pitcher (a little chippy at the rim but I am using it for a flower vase) fifty cents, and a vintage Housekeeping book also for fifty cents.

I just found a great wooden ironing board last weekend at an antique store and scooped it right up. I love the stability of it as well as the look!

I found a nice wooden box that I'm going to sand down, stain and drill vent holes in and turn it into a potato and onion bin. I'm excited but it will be a late fall project. Bought it for $5 at a flea market. Will take before and after pictures.

I have a question: My DGD was throwing out a Cinderella music box. You know, the one with the ballerina that twirls around. It's made of cardboard (China). I would like to install the music box/ballerina into a wooden box and make it look really nice. Any ideas?

Betty, that sounds like a great idea. Do you have a box or would you be making one? Will you cut a hole in the side or bottom for the winding thingie? Just be careful removing the moving parts and make sure you have plenty of room for the movement and the ballerina if it folds down. I hope you'll post a picture when it's done.

Yippppeeee! Yesterday I donated some coats for winter to a resale shop that donates to charities. While there I found 3 pairs of jeans just my size and a brand new blouse complete with the store tags on it for $4.00. They were having a 94 cent sale on all clothing. With our tax that made each item $1.00. Can't wait till next Monday when they replenish the clothes and have the same sale again.

Cherise, I love great thrift stores. Here is my latest $2.00 find:
My fruit basket I sit on the table in my kitchen was in pretty bad shape, so this will be my new fruit basket on the table. I just got some apples and oranges and they look great in there. The fruit basket will not be discarded yet.... will use in the garden until the bottom falls out. |

This morning I rescued a wooden planter from neighbor's trash. Good condition except one bottom slat is broken. Easy to repair and will look great on my deck next spring.
Just wondering - Does one dare put neighbor's throw away in one's front yard?

I'm always thrilled about reading the "bargain finds" here. This morning I found a Fraser Fabric Cutter for rugs for $8 at the local thrift store!

Well, I haven't had neat finds through shopping lately. However, in cleaning out our full-to-capacity storage shed and cleaning out an old camper that's been sitting on our property for a long time means I've found all kinds of things. Many of them . . . "oh, I forgot about that" finds too. There was a lot of stuff that went into the trash as well . . . CJ

Today I found a picture of fall leaves at the Salvation Army for $4. Hung it on my front porch over the telephone bench between wicker rockers.
I think of my front porch as another room so I decorate it as a room. That line of thinking extends to my gardens. They're all rooms to me to be decorated.

Well, I found the shipping trunk of my great grandparents in one of our sheds. They shipped their clothes, etc in it when they came to the states. It is metal and wood with Swedish writing on it. I hope to wash it down and clean it up to use it as our wood box in the room where out wood burning stove is located. I am going to repaint the words so they are not so faded and then distress them so they look as old as the box. Nice timing because I had just told my hubby we needed something other than the galvinzed tub we had been using. Will try to post pics as soon as laptop is fixed.

Kem I'm sure you probably already know this, but if you are concerned about maintaining the value of your family's trunk, please think twice before cleaning and repainting. It can seriously effect the value of the piece.

I am aware of the value decline, but it so dirty from sitting in the shed. I am going to have to clean it some way. I am going to brush it down first and then see what it will take from there. The lettering is cool, it say something about person's name and then Nort Amerika. At least that is what I think it says. Waiting for a warmer day to pull it out and work on it. Will keep originality in mind, but do not ever intend on selling it.

I found several books to give for Christmas gifts at the thrift store this past week. I have not been in some time as money is going into the ranch....but since I was in town for feed....
I have a ton of baby food jars also to create gifts with. Hoping to have a more homemade holiday this year.

Daizy, A friend and I made a lavender hand salve and put it in baby food jars. Another friend told us we should use colorful cupcake papers as the liner under the lid. We did this by buying small rubber bands, put cupcake paper on top of baby food lid, and secured it with the rubber band. |
