I finally taught myself to tat. I have wanted to learn how to do it, way before I stumbled upon MJF Sisterhood program. I would visit the Apple Butter Festival, every October, and watch the ladies do tatting. The tutorials for needle tatting, in MJF Stitching Room book, are very useful. I have an updated photo on my blog.

Beautiful, what a wonderful job you did Kristina, don't you just love it when you accomplish something you have wanted to do for a long time? I have been trying to learn tatting for years with no success, farmgirl Michele aka batznthebelfy will visit with me in September and she says she will teach me, so I am looking forward to it.
Continued success to you, what will you use the pieces for you are making?
Farmgirl Hugs,
Debbie

I have been also teaching myself with the needle tatting...not good yet but I keep practicing :).....I am not making anything yet but work on the rings & try to do a few in a row so I understand it...have been having fun with it & never realized its the same 2 moves over & over again...once I figured that out I was good to go...but its hard to get the little loops all the same size so I stick a heavy plastic needle in the loop each time so I get the same size each time...ackward but it works for me:)....Michele'

I'm not sure what I will use it for yet. Maybe combine it with a new sewing project later.

I saw a huge tatting section at the big craft store by my parents last week and thought about buying some, but then realized my craft closet is already taking over the whole room and part of another, and should probably scale back...lol!

Great job Kristina! Your work looks very nice and even. Congrats for figuring it out yourself!

I tried for years to figure how to shuttle tat with my grandma's old booklets and finally gave up. Then I discovered MJ's stitching book and was able to teach myself needle tatting a year or so ago. Once you get the hang of it this is a fun and addicting pastime. They make a little picot guage that only costs a few bucks and can be hung around your neck with a ribbon - it is really handy for creating consisent picots. Tatting does take practice, but don't give up!

Right now I'm tatting a series of snowflakes for my niece and nephew. My sister-in-law is making a 4-generation wall hanging for each of the kids that will have small doilies hand made by each of their great great grandmothers, great grandmothers, grandmothers, mother and two aunts. She is hoping that eventually the kids will want to learn to make their own to add to the collection as well.

Cheers! ~ Marilyn

So when you finish the tatting, do you add it to clothing, basically as a decoration or???

Be the change...

I love tatting. I taught myself to tat about 5 years ago. I use mine for edgings such as on doll dresses and hankies. I also made about 10 snowflakes last year for Christmas presents. I made them and then put them in acrylic frames with no backing. It looks they are suspended in midair. There are a lot of decorative uses. You can use it on pillows and pillowcases and as edgings for towels. I have made a doily and placed it on top of a pillow.
I think you are doing a great job. Keep up the good work.

YAY! Kristi . . . beautiful work!!!!
I started to teach myself to tat this past winter. The most fun I'm having with it is making "snippets" to add to my papercraft cards and journals.
Right now, there is no time for tatting . . . or crocheting . . . or knitting. Get back to it this winter!
GOOD JOB!

I totally agree about time CJ. We had a rainy day to take advantage of yesterday, but I did my tatting instead of inside housework - ha ha ha ha! I have a table full of more cucumbers to can and have to pick up 20 lbs of blueberries tomorrow. And in between it all, get my regular chores done and keep the coops and barns clean. It was sooooo humid and hot yesterday, that we only worked outdoors for about 1/2 hour.

I think we will have to dig our root cellar next year too. Crazy days around here for sure.

I'm taking advantage of all these dentist appts. for cleanings and work permit physical. I take my tatting with me. It's about the only time I get right now.
