I always have this thing for the wee wrens about my house. Every now and again, a house wren will slip in through the eaves somewhere, but now they've decided we're a safe place to raise their little brood!

A few weeks back, I was going to change out the faux forsythia and pussy willows in my old hanging basket on the front door, when I happened to see a wren flit down inside. I watched her most of the day, bringing twigs and little bits of dog hair and other things and it was clear she was nesting. So we let them be.
Thought you might enjoy some pics! The babies have hatched and they make the most delightful chirps when we open the door to leave and come in! I count only two, but there could be more. Her nest is rather deep, so who knows!

I just love them, Elaine. Very sweet little faces and adore their flippy tail feathers!

I love wrens and sparrows. And the swallows too. People think they are pesky birds but I love to watch them. Enjoy your little family!

I have too many bad cats around here. I always worry about them getting baby birds. There are lots of mocking birds right now going crazy out there. Must be baby flying time.

I'm a sucker for all the birds, Kris--even the Starlings. They eat me out of house and home, but I figure, they've all got a purpose. It's been so hot around here that I was concerned about it being too warm in the nest, but they seem to be right happy. We have a few stray cats, but honestly, I don't think they'd do very well getting up on that glass door. As it stands, I do worry about the pesky black rat snake that's about 6 feet long who travels around the porch. Last year, he ate the nest of baby Starlings that were in the eaves and that REALLY made me angry. I'm very viligant and am going to move things so that he hasn't any "perch" in which to stretch himself out on...

Happy to do it, Marcy! I feel like I've been let in on a great secret of Mother Nature--and I feel like these little wrens trust that our house is a safe place. Makes me feel good!
