The Black Cherry tomato!!! The seeds came from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. It's a purple variety with a really rich, sweet, smooth taste. AND it grows like wild fire. Tonight we compared our black cherry tomatoes to cherry tomatoes from the store and honestly there is no comparison. The store bought tomatoes were sour and bitter and unedible in a side by side taste test. (It was very official) I honestly would have never guessed there would be such a difference, but trust me there is.

So Ladies... tell me which tomato wins your BEST Tomato award???
(so I can start planning for next year)

I just had my first really good Green Zebra today. I bought 6 plants and they are all just about loaded. And there were a few ripe ones. So I had one with some crunchy little cucumbers. The tomato was really juicy and very flavorful. So I think they would have to be my new favorite for an eating tomato.

Now a good juicy sandwich mater has to be a big ole Rutger. They just fit a sandwich so good.

Kris - I've never had the Green Zebra so it's on my list for next year.

I, too, love Baker Creek and their catalog. I've actually cut out pics from the catalog and framed them. But, we're lucky to live only a few hours from there. So, we've made the trek there for the last two years to buy plants and seeds and whatever other goodies we can find. We like to go to the April Festival because there aren't near as many people as the May Spring Festival. This past year we bought our tomato and pepper plants from an old timer that had a stand set up there. He was full of 'mater knowledge, that has sure helped us newbies out. He told us he was from outside Joplin. He was one of the first people I thought of when I heard of the tornadoes there. I pray he's safe and I see him next year to buy more of his wonderful plants.

I really meant to post this in the garden forum... Do you think I should move it?

Kelly, I have been buying Black Prince tomato starts from a gal at the farmer's market for the last few years. We love those tomatoes. They are just wonderful. I imagine the Black Cherry would be along the same line. Are they earlier? That is one of the reasons we initially tried the Black Prince. And I love the sweet, smooth, less acidic taste of them.
