It is the ONE and ONLY photo I have ever seen of my parents together. As some of you may know, I never knew my dad. Him and mother divorced when I was 6 weeks old, and after that mother banned him out of my life forever. She tore up all photo's he appeared in, cut his face out of pictures she otherwise liked, burned ALL negatives etc. Only told me very bad things about him etc etc. SO I never ever met him and since he passed away in 1995......

BUT last week I called a niece of my mother for some family background and with a question whether she had family pictures for me. She told me she MIGHT have one of my father but wasn't sure. Lo and behold....3 days later she sent me this one:)

This pictures was taken during their engagement, mother was 19, dad maybe early 20's (he was 9 months older than mother)

In this picture it is clear that brother looks a LOT like him :)
I am SO happy to finally have a photo of our parents together

Dutchy,

What year was it taken?

Someone from my distant family contacted me a month go via FaceBook. We are third cousins and we instantly liked each other! We have been corresponding nearly every day and today he sent me a HUGE Family Genealogy chart that dates back to 1700!

I am so very happy that you have a good clear photo of your parents!

By the way Dutchy...You look like your mom-

They look like babies, Dutchy! I'm glad that you finally have a photo of your father--I never knew my grandfather, and the stories I was told about him were just like the ones told to you...I still wish I might have known him, though, and the few pictures I have of him and my grandmother together, or he with my mom when he would take her bird hunting are very special. He had a kind smile.

I think, if they (your parents) engaged and married, he must have been wonderful at one time! So glad that you have this!

Melody, they got married in 1944, so this was taken in 1944 I think :)

Yes I know I look like my mother, but I have some things of my father too, lol. The way I like to sit on a chair....exactly the way father liked to sit. Mother HATED it when I tried to sit like that, and now I know why...she hated it if my father did it too. Brother told me many many good things about him too, and I am happy to know he DID have a good side too lol. Mother never told anything good about him...
