How many of you ladies have a nook? My husband gave me one yesterday, can you get books from somewhere other than barnes and noble? And most important do you like yours and what are your thoughts on your e-reader?
My son has a kindle and he loves it. I wanted a nook for a variety of reasons, I can lend, they have text books (in school for the last 8 years) and I can expand the memory if I ever need to. I love to read and thought I would like one so he surprised me yesterday.

Man, I'm showing my age, I read nook and thought of a little place set aside for breakfast, reading, homework. We had a breakfast nook in our kitchen as a child and have many recollections of all of us kids sitting there having breakfast before the buses came to take us to school. I have seen the readers, but to me there is something about holding a book that just can't be beat. Since the price of physical books is going through the roof, this will probably be the way of the near future, guess I just have to get with it. Enjoy your new present. |

Hi Tina,
When the new e-readers came out, I swore I would never get one. Everyone kept asking me if I wanted one because I am a huge bookaholic. But I kept saying, no, no and no. I just couldn't get my head around holding a piece of plastic and glass to read a book. I wanted a real book, with real paper and that was that. Then they started releasing some books only as e-books and there was no other way for me to read them, so I finally broke down and started comparing them to see which one I might want. I just got a Nook Color for Mother's Day and I do like it. It's great to take with you if you go away. You don't have to worry about a squashed book or ripped pages and not only that, but the Nook has great apps and you can also get on the internet with it. You can customize the look to get it how you want it and you can be reading any nook book that is available in seconds. While I would still much rather have a so called 'real book', I am glad that I got it.

I want an E-reader in the worst way.... I have been looking at them for quite awhile. With the prices coming down on them I am thinking we are all going to get one for Christmas.
I have noticed that even at the local library some books are only availabe as ebooks. Whick is making me wonder.... So I am thinking all the kids would love to have one so they can get books from the library anytime they want.

I have a Kindle and really like it. The only thing I wish I had was a color screen. I don't know about iif you can get books from other places. I get mine from Amazon and they have a pretty great selection for the Kindle, plus really good sales and freebies.

I have a nook and really love it. I have always loved the real feel of a book but my house is small and ran out of room. I like I can borrow books from our library on it as well. It is great to take on vacation. Fits in my purse or tote and I have a great read with me. More books are only coming out as ebooks now so ereaders are nice.

Thanks for your input. I didn't get the color, the black and white is what he gave me, but I'm ok with that. If I decide I want color I can always pass it on to my daughter, she reads almost as much as me. I like the feel of a real book but I'm like you Tammy, small house and no room. I have downloaded a few books and am enjoying it so far. It is a little different than a book, but I am getting the hang of it. I have not thought to check our library, I will do that on Monday. Do you download from home or go to a branch to download?

I love my nook. Never thought I would get one, but the kids talked me into it. I still buy books, but now I am very choosy. I like being able to carry several (lots) of books around with me at once all in one. I am really glad I got it.

Tina, I take it to the library and they have to download it from their computer to my nook. It stays on my nook for about a month and then it is deleted automatically unless I recheck it. I have gotten to read some great books that way.

Well... I too swore I would not but at Christmas got the Nook and now... I have a Kindle. I have gotten so many free ebooks so it is nice as some are B&N and some Amazon so... Check both sites as they always have some books that are free, especially the classics.

lol, i also swore i would never get one.. till last august. I had won a gift card and hubby so would like my home library to dwindle down a little so..... solved this nick nack dilemma as well! I adore it! We travel a lot!! So i always have plenty on hand to read. And i tend to read before bed, love not turning pages as i can snuggle into the covers and not have to move much, lol. (no cold drafts) I got mine right before the color came out, bummer, but the only added feature i like on the color is it is back lit. We can trade books from one ereader to the next as well as the library.
