Hi everyone, I'm SO excited, I've got to share...i'm getting a Singer 'fiddlebase' Treadle sewing machine from 1889!!! Just made an offer on ebay and it's now mine! Does anyone else have a machine from the 1800's? Just to think of it's history excites me...maybe it was used on the prairie? soo cool!

I would just sit in front of it and imagine all the different women who used it. Enjoy!

What a nice sewing machine. Are you going to try and put it to use or keep it as display only?

Hi Paula, I intend on using it. I'm bidding on a beautiful treadle base from the 1880's as well. SOO excited. I already have a singer 1917 treadle and i use it. I always wanted one from the 1800s.

How neat!! Good luck with the treadle base auction! I have a Singer treadle base I use as a side table for our sofa. I'll have to check to see if I can find a date on it!

How exciting!! I just got my first treadle yesterday. I have been cleaning her inside and out. The base has three drawers on each side. I was told she is from 1908. I need to get a new belt, needles, and bobbins ....... where do you get your things naturemaiden? I am ready to start sewing! Barbara

I have SO much information, let me know if you need something.
...or just type in singer treadle model #. what is the serial # on your machine? i can hopefully get more info such as the model #.

I just got a 1912 treadle singers sewing machine at a yard sell. For $45.00.. Sewing machine in all. Cleaning it up the other day. Got new belt on it. Looked on utube to show how to use bobbin, threading it and using the treadle. Tried it out yesterday . Oh! How much fun I had. was sewing backwards but got the hang of it and sewing forward. So excited. It works great. I'm going to be a happy treadle. And did I say great work out as well.

Wow! What a wonderful find! I always wish that older things could speak to us and tell us their stories. Just think of the ladies who used it and what they made with it. Hope you enjoy it!

hi ladies,

got the treadle and am SO amazed. it sews beautifully! in great condition for it's age, someone took care of it because there was really no dust in it. using a shuttle and long bobbin are new to me, but it was easy to figure out, and so cool!

Even though it's not hooked up to a table or belt yet, i have this 'stand' i use when working on sewing machines- it enables me to test the treadle machines manually. i barely adjusted anything and it sews a perfect stitch front to back. Not always the case with electric machines..things always seem to go out of whack with those.

I'm awaiting on the delivery of an antique treadle base. My husband is going to make a simple table top. (I already have another treadle)

now all i need is a white singer featherweight and I'll be fine!
