This works but vent the bathroom real well. I tried painting some very big, bigger than a half dollar coin, chipped spots with car touch up paint, Toyota white and it worked perfectly. Figured if it worked on steel should work on cast iron. The dratted thing no longer looks like you need a tetanus shot to take a bath.
It has been almost a year now and I still have not had to touch up the places I painted. My tub was in terrible shape and this really did make it look MUCH better. There were a couple of high traffic places that are still good but I am the only one using that tub. So...who knows but the small bottle of touch up paint was cheap and I still have enough left for another go around.
There is a special paint that you can get specifically for bath tubs. It is a bit labor intensive & smells terrible...my previous landlady was re-doing her bathroom & thought instead of replacing the tub, it would be easier to paint it. I'm not so sure she thinks that now lol. Good luck with it!
