I am so amazed at how these things have helped in my garden!! I started lots of plants from seed this year, but without greenhouse or etc they were just skinny and small. (tomato plants, etc) So I planted them in the garden (despite my husband's laughs and promises of failure) and put milk jugs (with the bottom cut off and the top open) over each one--they have grown great!! Nice thick stems, etc. I'm so amazed!

I also put some of them down in the garden and popped seeds in(basil, etc) and those seeds have germinated/grown into strong seedlings already!

Our garden may look a little weird (my husband says, "who plants milk?!") but it's working great!

I use those plastic milk ugs all the time to start seeds - never thought to use them to shield seedlings - thanks for the tip!

my mom uses them in a diff way-she leaves them intact except punches a small hole or holes in the bottom-not many! fills with water and puts next to plants to water...the trickle effect.....

great idea. we use them as bait traps for coddling moths in the apples. I found an organic recipe on line and hubby hung 30 at least. We have an orchard so it won't get rid of all of them, but between that and the bat boxes he just put up, we are slowly moving away from some of the spray which thrills me to death. He tries to use the milder stuff, but even organic orchards spray. The harder part of a single crop in one place for a long time.

I'm saving them to use as mini-hot houses myself so I can keep stuff going through winter here. Think I'll start my tomatoes and peppers in december!
