On the 15th (next Wednesday) DH and I will be celebrating our 20th Wedding anniversary...I can hardly believe it!

What is the secret of making marriage a success?

For us I think it's having a good sense of humor, going with the flow; as there isn't anything we haven't gone through! respect, deep and abiding love that comes from two people who have spent a long time together, communication and last but not least COMMUNICATION!

What's your secret?

Congratulations Melody, hubby and I will be married 37 years August 24th, our secret is a lot like yours.
We never stop communicating and we never go to bed mad at each other, we always talk out the issue, forgive and always kiss good night and say I love you.
And, we never ever stop telling each other how much we are loved.
I wish you and your hubby many, many more anniversaries together.
Farmgirl Hugs,
Debbie

Congrat Melody,
My hubby and I will celebrate 20 as well on July 5th. We say communication and not letting the little things rule and just love, love, love on each other.

Congratulations on your 20th anniversary! On August 13th I will be celebrating my 23rd. Communication is key -so is just accepting and respecting that person for who they are. That being said IGNORING their behavior works about 90% of the time (LOL)!

Elaine! Yep!!! Ignoring their behavior works about 90% of the time it is so TRUE! What I used to find endearing the first year or so became irritating and now I just ignore it altogether~

CJ---That's WONDERFUL 43 years?? How many married couples can say that?

When Bruce and I were first married the couple across the street from us used to fight tooth and nail almost every night and it was usually well after two in the morning when we would hear them. One evening while lying in bed trying hard not to listen to their fighting we heard "him" say "You don't love me!" and she said "Why do you say that?" and he said "'Cause you never play cards with me anymore!" I remember laughing at the time, but it has always stuck with me. So from day one we always took the time to spend even just a few minutes together "alone." We take a little drive to look at the leaves or go by the lake and just sit and be a couple. That's another good secret I'd like to share!

Thank you ladies for the congrats-Makes me smile.....

I'd have to say that the "secret" I've discovered by year 9 is that there is no "greener grass" so we better make the most of what we've got! It can only go downhill from here! :D

So we do all we can to show each other love each and every day.

My DH and I have been together for 11 years now and the first person we always give credit to is God. We do our best to live by Bible principles, which include laughter, communication, respect. And a lot of icecream.

I agree with everyone else's responses, too.

32 years here. And the last half of those he's been driving a truck or it would not have been that long! It helps when they aren't around that much. And I let him think he's right sometimes. And I let him think he thought of the really good ideas too. And I roll my eyes only when he's not looking.

Congrats on 20 years! I hope you have many more.

Kris

We've been married 23 years and laughter....lots of it along with much hugging and "I love you"s does it for us. My hubby retired and likes my company and I like his company, too. We are good friends and yes, communication along with laughter and not trying to change each other is very important in a relationship. Like I told my daughter when she married..."What you see is what you get and more." Accept him for who he is.

Congratulations to you. And may more happy years.

Well, it was 45 yrs. in May for us. I think there are alot of good ones already mentioned here. I think humor is a big thing. Also so right, is never fight about money we decided very soon after marriage, never fight over what you don't have ! I think shared values and wanting the same things out of life is really important. Trust is one of the biggest things I believe. If you haven't got it in each other, you are doomed from day 1. Really liking each other and enjoying each others company. One day the kids will be on their own, and it will be the 2 of you again. Make time to always work on your own realtionship so when that happens it will be so great to be just the 2 of you again. That's more than one I know, and they aren't secrets just my shared thoughts. Happy 20 th !! And to all the other years here's to many many more!!

My husband and I will be married 42 years on Sept. 28, this year. I agree with everything said here. But, we did not start out on good grounds. For the first 20 years or so it was hard. Then I accepted the Lord into my heart and things changed. It took a few more years for DH to do the same. After that, we let the Lord lead and guide us everyday. I also feel that there has to be some compromise also. I guess you would say that God, a deep love for each other and compromise are our secrests.
