Tammy, yup, we went to the Dells a lot too. But mostly visited the fam at the farm. They all lived north and east from town if I remember right. My great aunt and uncle had a dairy and 6 boys. They all live right close in the same area.
I might pick up my knitting today! If I get my housework and laundry done. I haven't had time the past few days. Cool and rainy here so it will be nice to sit with my yarn later tonight.

I have to give credit where it is due..Farmgirl sister countryteacher was my inspiration and nudge toward learning to knit. She added a dishcloth that she knitted to the egg carton swap this year. It was just so pretty as well as useful! I've wanted to learn to knit for years. I just didn't "get it" from books, or from others who tried to teach me. Another yarn shopper at Walmart (OK..I admit I shop there sometimes..I need a twelve step program) directed me to you-tube when I admired her wrist warmers. So, now I have given my daughter my first set of knitted dishcloths. And, I owe it all to Deanna! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Hi! I, like Turtle, Love Love Love to knit! It's my favorite thing to do. I also teach knitting for my Parks and Rec and Continuing Education in my town. Love it! My favorite things are to knit small, simple projects like scarves, dishrags, and accessories.

I am a speed crocheter and beginning knitter. I have a pair of socks on the needles, but my wrists and fingers get so achey with the tiny little stitches that I haven't made it really far on them. Teaching myself to spin at present. I just cannot sit still and usually have 3-4 projects going at once. Right now... a rug, socks, afghan, funky earthy diaper bag, dish scrubbies, and a purse for my daughter. I think I need to finish something tomorrow so I can start something else. =)

I love to both knit & spin! I find the motion of both to be relaxing - almost meditative. I currently have socks on one set of needles / a shawl on another set. Mystery wool is on the wheel.
These two creative outlets truly *keep me out of trouble*! gggg

I love to crochet and tat and I have tried and tried to pick up knitting. I'll think ok I'm going to knit something. I'll get it started and then bam I drop a stitch. UGH I don't really know how to go back and pick it up and then I get discouraged and pull it all out. Then, ok, that's enough knitting. After a while, I think I'll try knitting again. Same thing happens again. Oh well.

Tammy - Kewaunee!! My daughter's high school soccer team plays Kewaunee so we were there this year. Also, my husband's college roommate is from Kewauneeand moved back after college; so, we get together every once in awhile.

I love knitting too! I currently have 5 pairs of socks on circular needles and have finally turned heels on all of them. Its a little embarrassing 
Are any of you on Ravelry? Its my first resource when I'm looking for a new pattern, and just inspiration.

I don't usually go to Ravelry, although I am on there. This is the only chat room I follow regularly. when I need a new pattern I always try knittingpatterncentral.com. The whole thing is free patterns and I have found some neat things there. The only gripe I have is that i need to click on the name of each thing to see the finished project.
Jennifer - yep, he graduated 30 years ago this year. We don't go there very often at all now that his grandma is gone. His parents and brothers still live there, but they are definite not the warm, fuzzy types, if you know what I mean! In 14 years of marriage, they have never invited us for a holiday or for a visit or anything. We are thinking of driving up to Door County this year for cherries and to go through the antique stores and just to drive around the peninsula. I love the little shops and small towns. Kind of like being at the seashore.

I started knitting a 48"x60" afghan. I have put 13 hours into it and I just finished row 15. There's 234 rows so I need everyone to pray that I live through this LOL!

Folks alway laugh because I tell them "Yes, I can knit but after a time I just want to poke someone with those sharp sticks". I have been crocheting since I was little and that is calmer to me. It is also funny because my business is Fiber Arts and I make things that knitters use - I can create yarn that is just to their liking and they always think I LOVE knitting but it is way down on my list of things I do in the Fiber Arts.
Enjoy the things you want to do and don't sweat the other stuff..

I just learned to knit. I like it. I now have enough washcloths to last me a couple of years. lol
I would love to learn to spin. A lady at yarn club just learned and said it is very satisfying.

| I taught myself how to knit a couple of months ago with the goal in mind of knitting socks. My husband got me a book to learn for my birthday two weeks ago. I cannot figure out the dp needles! Tried for a couple of days but put it away. Maybe I am not ready for it. Does anyone have suggestions of online stores to purchase yarn? Living in Germany things are expensive. |

I have been knitting for years. My mom taught me to knit and crochet some 40+ years ago. However, I tend to knit more than I crochet. I finally learned to knit socks a couple of years ago and quickly became addicted to them. I even made a pair for my mom who absolutely loves the pair I made for her. Think I might have spoiled her a little bit. During my 4-H years I belonged to two 4-H clubs simultaneously and one was a knitting 4-H group. Thank goodness there are those of us who still like to knit and those who are really willing to learn and be patient and persistent in the learning.
Now I have recently learned to Tat since becoming a Mary Jane's Farmgirl Sirsterhood!! |

Crystal, start the DP needles with only 7 or 8 stitches each, maybe 3 needles of stitches and try that first. If you can get through the first 2 to 3 rows, it holds together really well and you stop fighting the floppy needles, I always hate the first 1 to 2 rows, but have 2 different pairs of socks on the needles

Crystal, cast all your stitches on one needle and then knit the stitches off onto the other two needles. Then join for knitting in the round making sure that all of the cast on edges are toward the center of the triangle and none are twisted. I love to knit basic stitch things. I am currently working on a purse for my daughter. Thankfully she is patient as I have not been working on it as much as I should since summer started. Lol!

I find knitting to be incredibly relaxing. Hats are my thing; I haven't found a beret pattern I don't like!! I have a pair on socks on some needles, though I will be exceedingly glad when that project is done. As for sweaters for me, I've made four and three of them are either too big or too small.
I'm thinking I should just stick with hats.
Has anyone noticed that the price of wool has increased a lot?? One company was $6 for a ball, and the new prices have it at $8---that's a noticeable hike. Something to do with China wanting to get in the wool market, so says the owner of my LYS.

I went to my local craft store just yesterday to buy some yarn and it didn't seem like they've increased....but also I a) buy the cheap stuff and b) don't know the beginning standard to compare it to, haha.
Anyway, I just started knitting this year and have made two projects! Yay! I'm still trying to get the hang of purling but for some reason it is really complicated...or I make it complicated anyway. Tips on k1 p1? I know a LOT of patterns I want to make do that pattern.

I am not one to give advice on knitting. I knit left-handed, so whenever i do a cable pattern it ends up backward, especially if knitting from a written pattern. Charts are a little bit better for me, as I can usually get the pattern to come out the right direction. To teach my DD to knit though, i have to teach her to cast on right-handed, knit right-handed. I try it out left-handed first to see how I do it, then show her the right-handed version, talk about confusing
