Found!!!

Received a phone call early this morning around 6:40 from the Marinette Fire Department about a dog that fit the description of Truman. We flew out of the house and raced over to the department which is across the bridge into Wisconsin. We pulled up and they said that a dog had been skirting around the station overnight but would not let the firemen near them so they left him food and water at a safe distance behind the station and that's where he was. When Bruce rounded the corner of the house Truman started ripping in and out between his legs and wagging his tail. Bruce overheard one fireman say "There...Look at that!"

He is finally HOME! I am so grateful for all of your good thoughts and prayers that we find him and bring him home. My heart cannot express words to say how much it has meant to me!

Thank you girls!!!

Now, I think I am going to collapse on the couch and not move for an entire day....

Love,

Melody
Farmgirl #525

This happened just two hours before Nan's graduation last night. We went to an apartment complex to check out a possible apartment for DD. We left Truman in our unlocked car with windows half/way up. He has never gotten out and has never attempted to do so. I really don't think he could since his legs are so short. But, there was a group of kids hanging around and I think they let him out. He is not familiar with the area, couldn't find us and I fear took off running. We searched for hours both before graduation and after the ceremony.

I am frantic with worry.

Melody! I'm so sorry to hear this! I know what it's like to lose a "family member", especially in unfamiliar territory. The picture looks like he has a tag that may have your address? If so, that's good! Keep your chin up. He'll be home in no time!

Sending lots and lots of hugs your way!

That is my worst nightmare! I am so sorry. Be sure to contact local vets and animal shelters to let them know he is lost. We recovered our lab that way several years ago. Vet noticed the name on the tag didn't match what the people were called and remembered our fax from two weeks before. They were so stupid. We were so lucky. After that we had a chip put in. All the other animals already had one. I had not done him because the rest got theirs as puppies and he was already old by the time the technology came out.
I'll send Truman some love and prayers as well. Sending you big hugs and strength.

His tags were at home in a drawer---didn't put them back on after his last bath, but he has a micro chip that was implanted when he was very little with our id and if anyone has kept him I think they might remove his tags, but with the micro chip it would have to be done surgically. He is not good around strange people and now it has started to rain...I am desolate. I never thought I would react this way. I am inconsolable. Thank you for the prayers and well wishes they are very much needed.

We contacted our local animal shelter that encompasses both Marinette WI and Menominee MI (twin cities) and the police department in Marinette (standard procedure for Marinette Wi) before Nans graduation yesterday at 4:00 I just got back from driving around and around block after block where he was last seen and while I was driving through the residential area a little blonde haired girl with a huge braid down her back dressed in a long dress (gray)(Amish maybe?) came running up to the car and said she heard me calling "Truman" and "Did I lose my dog?" What a sweet creature. It kinda took me by surprise this sweet little girl coming right up to the edge of the sidewalk near my car because of all the drilling I used to do with the kids about approaching cars and being aware of strangers looking for lost dogs!! I told her about Truman and said if she spotted him have her mom call the police...thanked her and kept driving. My goodness.

After driving around I headed over to our local newspaper and put in an ad with a photo of Truman which should run tomorrow Saturday then Monday and Tuesday.

I broke down at the paper taking the ad---I don't know what's wrong with me. I have never reacted like this before. I feel very helpless. I don't want to compare heavens no...but what must it be like to lose a child???

Thank you for the prayers ladies!

If you have a Craigslist, be sure to check there. Unfortunately there are some unscrupulous people that take pets and then resell them on Craigslist. You can also post that your dog is missing. Some people have been caught this way when the owner posts the dog is missing and someone is also trying to rehome a dog with matching pictures.

It sounds like you are doing everything you can. I sure hope you get him back. It's heartbreaking.

Melody,
My heart goes out to you and my prayers go out to Truman. Lost Dogs of WI is very good at getting the word out. I am so glad that you contacted them. They have a very hight success rate. I just saw a story of a dog that was lost for 3 months and returned!

Thank you Diane...I have heard very positive things about Lost Dogs of Wisconsin and I am so glad to have "connected" with them. With the format they set up for me I have run off about 4 dozen "flyers" that the kids and I are going to distribute tomorrow morning in and around the area where Truman was lost. I am hoping the paper had time to print the Lost ad for Saturdays paper, because I feel that time is of the essence here. I am so worried because Truman does not do well with STRANGERS and steers clear of someone he doesn't know which of course will make it difficult for anyone to capture him if he is still outside. He is an INSIDE dog and always chained on his dog run when we let him outside...But, my feeling is someone HAS him inside or chained up. You can't imagine how many times today I could have sworn I heard him barking...I am heartbroken and try not to think about him from one minute to the next or I break down and cry. Prayers please?
