I accidentally washed my cell phone, what makes it so funny is that it is nice and clean but of course no longer works:-)
We do not have a land line only our cell phones, my husband is gone for 5 months, my son has my truck as his broke down and he lives in Denver. So, I am without communication except for my computer for a couple of days until I can get a new cell phone.
We live in a very small community in the mountains, so my son has called my neighbor down the road so they would know I am without communication.
I feel like an idiot and being alone I sure hate being with out a phone in case of an emergency.
So, there you have it farmgirls wonder what else can go wrong?
At least the sun is shining, I have blue skies so all is not bad.

I know that all will be going right for you - we all do silly things that can be anything but funny so do not be too hard on yourself. I only have a land line so when storms come in my son's are always on my case but I laugh and say - when you come to the farm how many times does your cell phones work?? They have to stand in the driveway, pick up one foot and hold their mouth just a certain way... I figure if I am suppose to talk with someone the phone will work. Be kind to yourself - we all mess up!!!

Been there done that! It does feel funny being out of touch. Just don't do anything like climb a ladder to the roof or try to fix the junction box till you get a phone! We have a rule at our house. Cell phones don't work there so no one does high risk work when no one else is home. If you can't get to the land line you are in trouble in these hills!

Oh thank you so much Grace, you sure brought a smile to my face. Things happen I know but my gosh when does it stop.
I have been working on my plants, repotting etc. that always makes me feel better. The hardest part for me will not being able to talk to my hubby who is in Utah. I miss him so much already so this is hard, plus he will worry about me. My son and I can communicate through the computer so that is at least something.
And I have my farmgirls thank God, what would I do with out all of you?
Grace I sure hope we will be able to meet one day. Perhaps on the way to Denver one day I could stop in and say hi to you. Is your farm hard to find?

There are several websites that allow you to make a few free phone calls from the site. It is on a speakerphone kind of thing. You dial the call, and have to talk kinda loud as it works on your computers microphone.
I have used them a few times after big storms because the cell towers go down out here a lot.
Not the funnest way to communicate, but it at least gives you something.

Sometimes is you take the battery out of the phone and let it dry out overnight it works the next day (words of experience...haha!).

I have it on good authority (friend did the same thing). Take the battery out of the phone and put the phone in a container and bury it with rice then let it sit for 3-4 days (I'd let it sit a week). The rice pulls the moisture out of the inner workings of the phone. Just don't try to use it before it has a chance to dry out or it will short itself out and never work.
This is an eye opening post since I too don't have a land line (lines aren't out where we live)and rely soley on my cell phone. We don't even have internet but our neighbors are just 40 acres away so hopefully I'd be able to go to them for assistance.

One week after getting new phones and a new contract (and a nice leather case for my DH), my DH ran over the phone with his 18 wheeler (it had fallen out of his pocket when he got in the truck.) So I asked him if he at least got the $25 case from it and he said "No, it was run over!" (like I was crazy!) and I said, "but it's leather..it should be fine." Never did get the case back. Fast forward a year...new phone..My Dh is a metal detector and we often go to the beach so he can hunt..well, last time he's gone 2 hours so I can't even leave to tinkle...so this time we're at the beach and I insist he wear the cell phone because I may need him. He puts it in his pocket and walks up & down the beach swinging the detector..comes back, wipes the detector off and puts it away...and goes in the ocean..yep, with the phone in his pocket!!! We now pay insurance on his phone.UGH!

Oh gosh. You poor thing. And Joann, I laughed out loud at your story. I think this must have happened to all of us. My husband decided to take a running jump into the pool and then remember that he put his phone in the pocket of his trunks. New phone.
Debbie, hope you are back and connected really quick. I know what you mean about feeling funny that you can't just call somebody if you need help or anything.

I heard about the rice thing too - a friend of my youngest son was in a horrible down pour and dropped his phone in a big puddle.... Good luck on the rice thing and I guess we do not have to say - don't cook the rice and it eat afterwards, yes the young man did that - not the sharpest pencil in the box.
I too hope we meet - the farm is not that hard to find the trick is making sure I am here. Also, a silver lining in this is that this can be the best time for self reflection, mediation and long naps...

Debbie, my Dd dropped my old phone in a glass of tea once. Had to get another one. Then I threw it down so many times but it kept working. I mean threw it down hard. And left it outside several times. Then my grnad dropped it on the kitchen floor and it would never work again. Had to get another one. I got the newer kind that is waterproof, throw proof, drop proof and all that. It's been a good one so far.

Debbie: I am so sorry your're in a pickle. But right away I thought of all the women in history who were isolated somewhere on the farm. I'm not scolding, just remembering what it was like when I was young. It too shall pass. God Bless. Bonnie

I just found this thread and just had to chuckle. Actually, roll with laughter, because it reminds me of the things my DH has done. I have to admit, I dropped mine in soup I was cooking. I was using both hands to do something with the soup and had the phone sandwiched between my ear and shoulder. It slipped off my shoulder right into the soup as I was talking. Amazing thing is I immediately fished the phone out, took the battery out, and left the whole thing to dry for 24 hours. It still works!

So, the cell phone still does not work after an overnighter in a bag of rice. But, I did get to talk to hubby this morning via Google Talk. It was amazing, he could not hear me very well but I heard him just fine. Thanks Angela for letting me know about that.
So, I was able to talk to hubby and my son last night before I went to bed, now that made me happy.
Thanks girls, new phone should be here tomorrow as well as my son.
I am happy that we all had a good laugh about it and all your phone stories, I knew my farmgirls would pull through!

I washed my daughter's ipod once. We immediately let it dry near a warm area (it was during winter so it was near the corn burner). We did not turn it on at all until it was dry. It still works today. She sometimes has to put it in a bag of rice for a few days, but continues to work after that. I did that with my cell phone once too. The kids spilled something over it, I dried it in a bag of rice, and it worked.

My DH fell in the pool at our new house, trying to trim the trees on the fence line. His iPhone was in his pocket. We did the rice thing, we took it apart, we used a blow dryer, we put it back in the rice, and set it in the sun. We didn't turn it back til that evening, and it did work after that, but it had a mind of its own! Calls from no where, old emails recycling. Deleted text messages popping back up as new, change the page when you were using the internet....huge pain! He got a new phone when he got me a new one for my last bday. I'm glad you're getting a new phone too, soyou don't have to worry about it.

i have washed just about everything... but, not a cell phone.... mostly crayons, fire crackers, gum, and nails and money on the occasion! O, and laundry too!give it a few days you will be laughing too....
p.s. the fire crackers were my husbands.... will he ever grow up?
