Hi girls,

I'm glad this thread was posted :)

I don't have an etsy shop (yet, working on it ):). From checking out etsy myself I think if one participates in the 'Treasuries" they can get more exposure as well as belonging to various forums and having the shop in the sig line. With anything, what ones puts into something is going to be more beneficial. I think having a blog would help too. Thanks for everyone's thoughts :)

I too have a shop on Etsy and Ebay, and I have found if I do not work it I will not sell anything. Yesterday I finally worked on both shops all day and woke up this morning to find I sold a quilt shop. So, your shops are what you make of them. I will continue to work on mine today listing more treasures.
To be honest I sell more now since I am a Mary Jane Farmgirl as I am able to advertise with my shop addresses on the forum and that helps so much. So, thank you Mary Jane and all my Farmgirl Sisters for your support and sales.
My sales also help pay for my Farmgirl CJ of the month aprons, so I like that:-)
Good Luck everyone and go for it you have nothing to lose and you make new friends as well.
Farmgirl Hugs,
Debbie

It is my understanding that Ebay is also charging a percentage of your shipping fees! I stopped selling with them a long time ago, just have not had time to set up my etsy shop yet. I need to go peek at everyones shops!

Thanks so much for all the kind words about my shop. I have been so busy with the garden I have not even been here to read for a long time it seems.

I am heading out now to take a look at all the shops from the this thread.

I did an ebay store for about a year for my switchplate covers. The monthley store fees along with the final fees ate me up so I went to etsy. yes they sells can come and go but the listing costs are so low that I list and forget about them. I have found that for exposure it works to list or relist one item a day. That gets you on the front page a little more often.. I always seem to pick up a sell after I list something. Yes, getting your name out helps as well. Put a link in your MJ correspondence in the forums and in the body of any emails you send. I dont do facebook or blog but heard this is great as well. It is easy to set up so go for it!!!

Sandy, I used to have an eBay store. I did try it again for 1 month. eBay changed the basic store. You used to be able to list an item for 3 cents, and the store used to cost 9.95. It ridiculous to pay the $15.95 for one month and then 20 cents per listing. The fees really add up, especially when you include the final value fee (high percentage rate plus PayPal fees). I now only list the number of items that I can for free listing.

You are right about listing or re-listing one item a day for Etsy. I am doing fine with Etsy. Of course, would like to do more, but I have my website, Etsy, plus other listing sites, so it keeps me busy.

I began my etsy shop last month. I was hesitant and found all the ins and outs of etsy overwhelming at first. ( paypal etc) but think I have a handle on it now. That said traffic has been slow. I thought perhaps summertime and people about. Thank-you ladies for the advise and encouragement.

You are right about that. Sales during the summer do tend to slack off.

Things seem to picking up for me on etsy. I am listing almost everyday and I have a new line of product. So hopefully they will catch on for gifts.

Is anyone else having any luck?

You need to join the SCFGTeam - it is for Etsy and Sunshine girls, if you havent done so already. It is a great group and they are super at promotion. The leaders are really on the ball.

The other nice thing is it is a place where I can shop for items and know the sales are farmgirls. You don't have to search for items.

Wow, you ladies have cool shops! I found sales slacked off during the summer and I was ok with that since I would rather be at the beach or in the garden anyway...
I joined the SCFG team on Etsy. Made up of farmgirls. The leaders are on the ball and friendly too.
Looking forward to seeing more of your wares!

Can you link me to the SCFG team on etsy? I haven't done too badly on etsy selling a mix of vintage and supplies in one shop, and handmades in another. September has been bad for me so far but hoping it will pick up soon. Would love to get it together with other farmgirls so that we can help each other.

Hi Sharon, If you go to my Etsy shop, http://www.dustbincards.etsy.com and click on my profile, it shows the teams I belong to. YOu may have to click to expand to show more, if it is not readily visible. Looking forward to having you as a teammate!

AND...we are neighbors in a farmgirl kind of way! I live north of Hayden, just south of Silverwood, in Idaho. I am planning on making a pilgrimage to Wheelers to find peaches to can this week. Then out to Carvers to pick corn to freeze.

Wow!! I am soo impressed with all you ladies! I had not heard of Etsy until I became a sisterhood member. I am one of those who just didn't realize she was a farmgirl until during college and from college went straight to the office without a clear idea of what or who I was/wanted. So seeing all of this chatter is REALLY inspirational! Thanks Ladies!!

PS So what I am getting is this: I need a blog (or two), I need to advertise myself and my wares, and then look into something like etsy when I think I am ready to start sellin? Does that about cover it? :)

Etsy is so easy! And if you have any questions, you can post them in Etsys' forums and get all kinds of expert advice. I have gotten some great answers there.
I still don't have a blog...but I notice that my local community college is offering a class on beginning blogging for only $39.00 for an evening class. Might have to give that a go.

Oh, and have fun with it!

My daughter and I recently listed on ETSY too. As others have said, you do need to continually promote your self. I love visiting the fun shops too.
We have found a few other places to showcase our products. Today we are on http://www.groopdealz.com/index/index-home/deal_id/399. I hope that helps!

Hi Ladies,

I am the Team Captain of the SFGCTEAM on ETSY!! A big Thank You! to MJF for making this a success. I love the forum and all the farm girls!!!!

You all have given some really smart tips and advise on how to be a success on Etsy or anywhere you sell from. It is so true, you get out of it what you put in to it!!!

I offer great tips on selling on the team page. I am sponsoring 14 shops a month from the team in a Craft Show Treasury to get more traffic to team members shops!!!

We get over 500 visitors each time. One time we had over 1600 visitors in one week!!! So, if you sell on Etsy join our team and help farm girls grow their business.

All of my sales are new customers and some even first time shoppers on Etsy!!!! I have over 150 sales to date!!!!

If you apply the tips on my team page you will see your sales go from 0 sales a month to 30 sales a month in about 6 months!!!
