I recently watched a Shirley Temple movie that I haven't seen in years and years called Just Around the Corner. It's so cute and adorable as most of her movies are.

Anyway, in the movie, while trying to avoid a topic of getting into trouble, Penny (Shirley) Makes fudge. Soon, I had a big craving for fudge. Now I am originally from Michigan. And most of the time when I wanted fudge, we would go up to Mackinaw Island and get some from Joanne's Fudge. Mackinaw Island is known for having the best fudge in the world.

Since I moved to Alaska a few weeks ago, going to Mackinaw Island for some fudge is out of the question. I am sure I have the recipe they use on Mackinaw Island some place. However, I couldn't find it. I did find a recipe for fudge from a 1944 cookbook. So, I made it. It turned out so yummy, I had to share it it.

Soft ball fudge
(The House Hold Searchlight pg 72. ~ 1944)

Ingredients :
2 cups of sugar
2 tablespoons of Butter
2 square of unsweetened Chocolate or 6 tablespoons of coco
1 teaspoon of vanilla flavoring
2/3 cup of milk
A few grains of salt.

Directions:
Combine sugar, milk, butter, salt and chocolate or coco.
Cover until boiling point is reached.
Boil to soft ball stage ( 234 degrees F to 238 degrees F)
Add flavoring and cool without stirring to room temperature
Beat until mixture is creamy, thick and will hold its shape when dropped from a teaspoon.
Drop by teaspoonfuls onto wax paper or poor into well buttered shallow pan.
Cut into squares

If you check out my blog, there is a picture of the fudge I made. :)
