The post is lovely. You are very fortunate to have had all those wonderful women in your life.
In your blog it states you started a Farmgirl Chapter in southern Indiana. We will be moving back to Indiana next year to the Nashville area and I would dearly love to find a chapter. Are you anywhere near me?

Karin, I am about an hour and a half from the Nashville area. I LOVE Nashville! It's in Brown County and the most adorable shopping town EVeR! We go there a lot. You are more than welcome to join our chapter...we would love to have you :)

Elaine- thank you so very much!

A very sweet post. It's wonderful to have so many women to turn to, and/or lean on. Grannies are pretty vital and the best sort of inspiration.(((hugs)))

The tears I shed then, watered the flowers I harvest now.

Cecily, on a whole other note lol. Have you ever read the book: Bean Blossom Dreams, by SallyAnn J. Murphy?? I received the book years ago as a gift of an old friend of mine who lives in that area. It is SUCH a wonderful book about a city family's search for a simpler country life :)

When I was in the USA in 2007, and stayed a week with said friend.... they planned for us to go to Brown County as well. But that never happened because I had to leave to Baltimore sooner than planned (my BFF got very ill) But I LOVE the book, so maybe you'd like it as well. It is about farming, pioneering etc etc. NOT sure if there are still copies, but maybe your library has it??

Hugs from Marian/Dutchy, a farmgirl from the Netherlands :)

Marian, no I haven't read it, but it sounds like something that I would absolutely LOVE! Sounds similar to Animal, Vegetable, Mineral by Barbara Kingsolver...that's definately one to read too. Thank you so much for the suggestion...I was ready for a new book to read, too :)

Prodigal Summer is about 4 people who are going to live in the Apalachian mountains :)

I ordered it from our library, plus Pigs in Heaven and Bean Trees. Hope they are as good as they sound :)
