Brenda,
I subscribe to... Hobby Farms http://www.hobbyfarmsmagazine.com/hf/
Mother Earth News http://www.motherearthnews.com/
Countryside and Small Stock Journal (which you already know about)
Farm and Ranch, Country Women, Country, Birds & Blooms, and Backyard all from Reiman. However these are more for inspiration then actual hard core knowledge.
Thank you for this thread, I will so enjoy finding out about other farm/country publications!! You listed several that I will now have to go take a peek at! Thank You!!!

Steve's grandma gives me all her Better Homes & Gardens so I don't have to subscribe to that one anymore. Sometimes I buy Countryside & Small Stock Journal -- that is one I can read from cover to cover.

Oh, I love Mother Earth News too, thanks for the reminder --- I just pick it up a few times a year at Barnes and Noble, though.

I went up the hill to my parent's house yesterday and HAD to show my dad the "Certified Farmgirl" bumpersticker on the back of my van.( since I just started the Pea Blossom Farmgirl chapter here in GA, I got it on the vehicle asap!)and he said he just received a copy of Progressive Farmer in the mail. How fortuitous! So, now he will give them to me. He got a free subscription from somewhere. Lucky daughter!!

Subscribe to: Hobby Farms - love it! Small Farm Canada - has great articles on current issues and lots of great ideas. It's a relatively new magazine published locally and it's great. Lots of great articles on livestock and fencing and gardening, etc. Country Woman - love it, particularly Ann's Farm Day adventures.
Use to subscribe: Mother Earth News - I have every back issue including #1 and still buy it occassionally. I like the older issues for great how-to articles. I don't find newer issues as informative. Harrowsmith Magazine - used to love it and subscribe, now I find it's a yuppie magazine and if you have a million dollars for a designer solar home on 20 landscaped acres it's the magazine for you!

I used to subscribe to The Mother Earth News. I agree with Diane, the newer issues are much less informative. I also used to get Mothering Magazine, also MUCH different these days. I find Country Living to be much less "country". Overall, I think most magazines have gotten slicker and full of advertising. I don't bother with them except in doctors offices or at tag sales! LOL The only magazine I subscribe to these days is Mercantile Gatherings. It is a magazine for primitive crafters/lovers. I think it's the very best thing I've seen in years! At this time you can only order it online. I think Frannie posted a link a while back. Rhonda

Hee hee Diane, you're too funny! I don't subscribe to any magazines, but I pick up Harrowsmith from time to time. I think the pictures and ideas are all stunning - I never really put a "yuppie" spin on it! Ooooh...if only I had a million dollars for a designer solar home!

I subscribe to Countryside and Small Stock Journal and I get back issues of Mother Earth News from my library as they are getting ready to toss them. I have found it a great way to get magazines. They are really happy to pass them along! As a whole, I find Mother Earth very slick and yuppie these days. Same with Organic Gardening. Countryside has changed over the years, but still has interesting info and I like that the articles areusually from people living what they are writing about. Sharon
