These are just some of the quilt tops that I need to finish.
I would like help in ID of patterns to add to info tag.
They are all hand sewed.Grandmother & Greatgrandmothers. From 1920 up to 1975.
I will be posting large photo and some close ups.
This one pattern is needed to finish!
This one is finished but needs repaired.
I have more and will post them a later time.
Thanks for any help.
I need help on how to finish these as well.

Thank you soooo much. Now I have at least a start. Now I need to learn how to finish these. I have two that I love that are crazy quilts that I am going to do first. I have boxes of squares and found a box that had sunbonnet sue with pattern! Do I ever wish that some of you lived closer.

Great job Sunshine! So sew many blocks have more than one name, and piecers often change a pattern to fit their need, or to make it easier for them to do! But I do agree with Sunshine. Also remember, when repairing old quilts, it changes their date to the current date, to the repair date. So if it was made in 1937 say, and is repaired in 2006, it is again a 2006 quilt. Depends on what you plan to do with the quilt, maybe better left the way it is. The tops could be quilted, either by hand or machine. Just don't pack them in plastic bags. Muslin, old pillow cases or new pillow cases and also rolled length, or just laid out flat on a guest bed which doesn't get used.

The name I know #2 by is broken dishes if that helps. They are sure are beautiful..I bet you will have fun finishing them!!

If you finish the quilts and don't want them to change eras you need to look on ebay and find vintage fabric from that era or older. Because a quilt is aged by the newest fabric going older is always better than newer.
any older than 1960 should have cotton or wool batting from 1960 - 1990 polyester gross but that is what was used if after 1990 back to wool or cotton. personally I would do then all in wool people did use wool in the 60's - 80's but they typically carded it themselves. wool just quilts better on machine or hand.

each time someone post a name for ablock I would look it up on the web to see if you can find it and see if it matches if it does I would put as many names of the block pattern on the signature block as I could the more information the better who originaly pieced it and when and why if you know and if quilted who did that at when.

As for repairs and finishing them. I have fabric that was used on them as well. Boxes and Boxes of fabric. The repair I have the same black print fabric that I just plained on useing to replace the ripped ones. Does that still change the dates? I don't plain on using new except for maybe the inside of the quilts if I have to add that layer. As for wool I can't touch the stuff. I sent all the wool quilts to my brother all but one was finished. Just to let you know I even have the old thread still in its handmade wooden stand by my grandfather just waiting to be used again. My family is and was packrats we don't get rid of anything if we think we can use it later. I tear at myself to even let go of things I know I will never use just because it was family history. I might find myself trading things I don't know how to use to someone that I know will use it and cherish it too. These thing where stored in cedar chest, medal old trunk with fabric liner. I know I have money value in these things but the value to me is it is family history.

no the date is fine if you keep the fabric the same. You have one problem the label will change the date best to make a pocket on the back and embroider all the information on a piece of fabric and place the embroidered piece of fabric in the pocket and make it have a button closure use mother of pearl buttons old ones if you have them and button it closed so you don't loose the embroidered label. ( the reason for the embroidery on the label it last longer than a piece of paper in a pocket and won't fade like ink. If you decide to do ink use indian ink on the piece of fabric that you put in the pocket. Another choice is to lightly bast the label on after quilting so that it is not permanent and able to be removed with out much trouble of damageing the quilt but strong enough to stand wear and tear then it wont affect the quilt either. If you can't touch wool I would use something like hobbs heirloom ( cotton) batting. Storing in a cedar chest is bad as it can leave oil stains on the fabric from the wood. I guess the fabric liner saved your items. I don't remember who said it but laying flat is the best so if you have a spare bedroom laythem on a spare bed. if you don't don't make tieght fold in the fabric as it can get dry rot or mold don't store in attic or basement fabric breaths and wants to live in the same inviroment that you do. Keep away from direct sunlight as much a s possible as the colors are still bright and you don't want them to fade.

Hi Jennifer from a fellow Hoosier! I'm not too awfully far from you in Indiana! My MIL is a very accomplished quilter and knows about every guild in the state. Let me ask her if she knows someone in your area that can help you out!
There are many, many groups that meet for fellowship & quilting all over the place. You might ask at the local library, parks department or county extention office to get in touch with area quilt groups. My MIL leads a group here and they are always excited to welcome someone new! Bet there are folks near you that would be glad to help you learn!
I'll let you know what I find out.

I looked in some of my pattern books and this is what I found:
#1 is indeed Old Maid's Puzzle
#2 I found this pattern in Marguerite Ickis book and it is called Crown and Thorns.
#3 This is similiar to Broken Dishes, but I think it is Hour Glass
#4 This is Texas Star.
