There is a brand spanking new Lavender Festival happening in the Spokane area just down the road from my farm next weekend; Saturday and Sunday July 15th and 16th from 10 am - 7pm. My neighbor planted her lavender farm 3 years ago and this is her FIRST festival. I will be a vendor as will Judy, whose car broke down on the way to Farm Fair. She is a soap maker extraordinaire! Vivian's Lavender Farm is small but beautiful. It has been a real priviledge watching it from literally the ground up! She'll have several vendors, u-pick lavender and lavender lemonade that alone is worth the drive!!
Her farm; Garden Gate is located off Highway 2 outside of spokane. You would follow Hwy 2 (west) past the airport, past Airway Heights and just through the light at Fairchild Airforce Base. Turn Right onto Dover Rd. Follow Dover Rd for ~2 miles until it intersects with Deno. Turn right onto Deno road and follow the signs. By the way, at the end of Dover Rd before you turn right onto Deno Rd, you'll see my farmstand and big ol' Henry the white farmhouse. This is my farm; No Worries! Come and enjoy the weekend..If you have any questions, PLEASE don't hesitate emailing me! hope to see some of you!!

Julia,

How did the lavender festival go? We've been so busy over here that we didn't make it over. We did go to the one up in Athol Idaho this past Sunday. It was so hot we only stayed 2 hours.

I'll answer, Debbie, since I was there, as Julia mentioned. It was a really nice festival - small, but the people who came enjoyed it and most of them went home with big bunches of lavender that they picked themselves. There was a slow but steady stream of visitors on Saturday, not such that a vendor felt overwhelmed, but you could talk to the customers. Sunday was a bit slower, but still, well worth the time to be there. One of the vendor's sons played flute on Saturday and on Sunday, Vivan's daughter and niece played violin, and it was great. There was a lot of exposure for Garden Gate Lavender Farms and I am sure the Festival will only continue to grow. My sincere thanks to Julia for suggesting me to Vivian.
Oh, and Cindylou came over for the day and I got to meet her, and Joann (Mountaingirl) came up from further south in Washington and so it was a mini-FarmGirl gathering...and another FarmGirl who I had met at Julia's and I'm ashamed that I can't remember her name...I wish y'all could have come, Debbie, but there will be next year!
And, yes, it was hot, but there was an almost constant breeze on Saturday that helped out a lot. I bought 4 more lavender plants to add to my collection, and they are doing well in my garden. So a good time was had by all! Cheers! Judy
