So "Mother's day" is behind us now on the calendar...... between now and Memorial Day's conclusion of this project...... there's still plenty of fun time to knit and crochet some loving little gifts of love for babies and children.

Wanting to whip up some quickie projects...... skip the big projects like blankies and go for those JIFFY and FUN things that are extra easy and extra quickie!

Think about...... baby bibs, baby booties, baby washcloths, and baby hats!

Think about...... your favorite baby yarns and all those fabulous colors!

Think about....... those JIFFY patterns that I've been sharing here for our Farmgirls.

Then grab your hooks and knitting needles and let FARMGIRL LOVE shine brightly from here on to the end of May when our projects need to be off in the mail.

I got an email from a Farmgirl today asking me what is needed that she is considering making....

The answer is simple...... it's babies we are talking about.... and babies can always use baby hats, baby bibs, and baby booties. Blankies are always wonderful but time is short and many times blankies started up have a way of slowing down along the way. Babies don't need those unfinished blankies.

So my recommendation to our Farmgirl sisters here is to keep it simple!
The simpler it is, the easier to complete! Babies aren't going to be fussy about having super fancy designs. They simply want to be babies and that means something to cover their heads and feet and enjoy their welcome in our world with love.

Here's the recipe......

FAST & FUN PROJECTS = FABULOUS GIFTS of LOVE

All set to go...... well, let's get started knitting.....

You will need your pair of #5 kniting needles and your yarn. I am using Bernat SOFTEE BABY Yarn. You can use any baby yarn or sport weight yarn.

You will be casting on 41 to begin (not too tightly either)...

Now you are ready to KNIT for 14 rows in garter stitch....

The size you are making will fit a newborn.

This is first main part of 3 parts of your booties...... Call it Part A which gives you the sole for your booties and groundwork to build upon.

Now we are going to work on the 2nd part of our bootie..... Call it Part B. This is where you will go into a lovely and easy decrease. This is what gives it a nice definition to the front of your bootie. IT's the body of your bootie....

You have 7 rows that you will be working on.

Row 1: K18, K2tog, K1, K2tog, K18
Row 2: P17, P2tog, P1, P2tog, P17
Row 3: K16, K2tog, K1, K2tog, K16
Row 4: P15, P2tog, P1, P2tog, P15
Row 5: K14, K2tog, K1, K2tog, K14
Row 6: P13, P2tog, P1, P2tog, P13
Row 7: K12, K2tog, K1, K2tog, K12

K2tog = Knit 2 stitches together
P2tog = Purl 2 stitches together

You have now completed Part B of your body. Give yourself a Farmgirl hug! You are doing GREAT!

FARMGIRL TIP to making BOOTIES......

I use my counter for each of the 3 parts of this bootie.

It's really an easy formula for this bootie too.

Think 14 rows ( Part A) 7 rows (Part B) and back to 14 rows (Part C)

14-7-14 is the MAGIC CODE for these JIFFY & Easy Booties!

Now let's work on PART C of these booties so you can complete your very own Farmgirl Baby BOOTIES along with me....

The final part is making the rib and that's easy and fast. You are doing a K1,P1 for 7 rows if you want the bootie without the roll-down look or 14 rows if you want the fold-down cuff. For beginners, this is called a rib and what you are doing is knitting the knit stitches and purling the purl stitches. So keep an eye on this when you start a new row. This is not a seed stitch.

Here's what the bootie looks like with 7 rows only. This will not have the roll-down cuff.

Here we go now with the wrapping up of our lovely bootie that is nice and soft....

Whether you make your K1,P1 rib for 7 rows or 14 rows (my favorite way) you will then need to bind off in the pattern. I use a #7 needle to bind off so it keeps it looking pretty in the bind off.

Here's what the baby bootie looks with 14 row-rib and the bind off completed.

NOW we are going to complete our JIFFY & EASY bootie by folding it together and then stitching up the seam. You may have noticed that I have a good amount of yarn for my seams. I start my seam work from the top and work down.

That works up very fast..... and GUESS what !!!! YOU are now ready to enjoy making your own Farmgirl JIFFY and Easy Baby BOOTIES and perfect to send along to Debbie Macomber's "KNIT 1 BLESS 2" 2011 Project.
