My beagle is driving him self and I bonkers! He sits at the back sliding door looking for the squirrels. And they are out big time right now.(Mating Season). He thinks he is going to be able to catch one I told him you will never catch one but he just gives me that long dreary eyed beagle look. He Barks all day long wanting in and out. I wish he would give it up but I know that will never happen!!!!!!! So for now I will have to put up with his howling!! He's so spoiled!!

A beagle? Oh my goodness. We had neighbors with a beagle. They would leave and tie him up outside and he would bark ALL day til they came back. Then he went inside. Beagles love to chase things. You should let him go and see what happens. He will have a ball and wear himself out and take a nap and be quiet for awhile. Come on, Ma, it'll be fun!

One of our dogs caught a squirrel that was having a great time teasing her. That squirrel thought it was so smart and had no idea how fast the dog was. Let the dog out to have some fun Kathy |

I have been letting him out. And about 10 minutes later after he relizes he can not catch the squirrel he stands at door whining to get back in. He loves the AC. Like I said he is so spoiled so for now we will play the in and out squirrel game. Maybe eventually he will time it just right and when I open the door he will run and catch the squirrel. I wish he would catch the big rabbit that keeps sneaking in my garden!

Poor guy! LOL Have you given him a squirrel toy at all? Maybe hanging one from a tree or something to that effect?

I LOVE Beagles. In fact, there is a 14 year old one at my feet right now, snoring his little heart out. I have had beagles my entire life, literally from birth. This one I have had since he was 6 weeks old. Aren't they crazy? But so good with kids and families. Love them.
Mine has a squirrel toy and a duck toy. Right now we are trying to get him used to the chickens. Once a Farm dog, always a farm dog. He's so grey in the face now he is almost white. :)

My Beagle lucky spent a full hour in our windbreak chasing the 2 rabbits that live back there. She was snoring so loud that evening it was hilarious. Love the beagles. :)

I have the most loveable, gentle well mannered beagle! No- she does not yodel unless the family leaves the house without her! A Wonderful family dog, We just need a fenced yard or her nose gets her to wandering! I feel the key to our beagles was to gently train from day one. You gotta love petting those velvety ears!
I often find myself wandering down country roads..................... |

I've always wanted a beagle! I think they're just the cutest thing ever! maybe I'll have one adopt me someday when I have fewer senior big dogs... 4/5 dogs over 80 lbs is a handful!

Oh, I love all your Beagles. We raise them and I have 1 sitting next to me in her own queen ann chair! Tell me she isn't spoiled. I can 't get out of her site, what she has left. She has glaucoma and what a fiasco we had getting her pressures down. 2 specialists wanted to remove her eyes. I could just puke thinking about it. So if your dogs get hazy eyes, tearing or start rubbing them get them checked. They say it feels like a migraine when their pressure is up. I won't even tell you how much I spent to get her under control. Her drops are $116 a month. I wish I knew how to post a pic. we have 10 that my husband uses for field trials also. Many ribbons and trophies too. There are 3 pillows in our bed. Daddy,Jackie and Mommy and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Too funny, Dorinda!!! I love a Beagle! They are VERY determined little creatures! Our beagle, Daisy Bad Seed, sees our fence as "mere suggestion" and ends up in the lower "back 40" more often than not, sniffing up whatever she can find and running ten kinds of squirrels and rabbits and rolling in deer poop. She's called a Kentucky Field Beagle, bred to be low and fast, and boy is she ever. She makes our German Shepherd look like she's standing still!
Here's my favorite picture of her--taken a few weeks ago with her favorite snack buddy, our daughter, Violet.

We have a beagle/lab mix who also sees the fence as a "suggestion". He is an excellent fence jumper. :) He loves to bark up in the trees at the squirells in the back yard & they sure do talk back to him.He also raises his head to bark at the birds that fly overhead. I wouldn't trade him for anything in the world. He is simply the greatest dog ever!
